Independence Day falls on a Saturday this year, so it arrives without the extra day off. Diwali does the same on a Sunday. The two biggest holidays of 2026, and neither one gives you a break you did not already have.

Three quieter ones do, and all three are Fridays.

Friday 4 September, Janmashtami.
Friday 2 October, Gandhi Jayanti.
Friday 25 December, Christmas.

Dussehra falls on Tuesday 20 October, which becomes four days if you take the Monday.

The three places in this reel are ones we plan: the dunes outside Dubai, the road from Srinagar to Anantnag, and the rice terraces at Sa Pa. Dubai and Kashmir sit comfortably inside a long weekend. Sa Pa needs more time than that, and it earns it.

Dates shift a little by state, so check your own list before you commit to anything.

Dubai sells the same view at four different prices, and the counter will not explain the difference.

The standard Burj Khalifa ticket puts you on floors 124 and 125, at roughly 452 to 456 metres. Level 148, sold as SKY, sits at 555 metres. The lounge floors, 152 to 154, sit near 580 metres. Three tickets, three prices, one building.

The desert safari works the same way. Standard, Deluxe and Premium are not three different deserts. The dune bashing runs 20 to 25 minutes in every tier. What changes is the seating and the service. Sandboarding is free if you ask.

And the Dubai Fountain, the thing most people remember, costs nothing. Every 30 minutes from 6:00pm to 10:30pm.

Bali is smaller than it looks, and slower.

Real drive times, from people who route this trip for a living:

Airport to Kuta, about 25 minutes.
Airport to Ubud, 1 hour 50, for only 37 km.
Airport to Uluwatu, about an hour.
Ubud down to the south in afternoon traffic, well over two hours.
The east temple loop, 259 km and 9 hours 13 minutes of driving.
Lempuyang alone, three hours each way.

Most trips lose a day to the same mistake: three things booked in three different areas, and half the holiday disappears into traffic.

None of this makes Bali less worth going to. It decides how you book it. Fewer bases, longer stays, arrival day left alone.
