🌟 What a day one at Asia Fruit Logistica 2026!

Hong Kong opened its doors to the global fresh produce community today, and it did not disappoint. Busy aisles, meaningful conversations and a real sense of energy across the show floor, exactly what makes this event worth traveling for.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by Hall 3, Booth , to talk through your packaging challenges with Rani Kadosh, Gary Ward, Doron Eshel and Ohad Nerya. It was great connecting with familiar faces and meeting new ones from across the industry.

On July 21, StePacPPC, together with ADK S.R.L and the Cherry Chamber of Mendoza, hosted the "Modified Atmosphere Packaging Solutions for Fresh Fruits and Vegetables" workshop in Mendoza, Argentina.

Why Mendoza?

It's where early Argentine cherry production is concentrated, and a region known for quality horticultural production, making it the ideal setting for a conversation about how to better preserve fruit quality from orchard to market.

Our team, Ivo Tunchel, Eugenia Arboit and Lucas Ziotti, joined Enrique Molina, from ADK, flow-pack machine manufacturer, to share both a broad view of StePacPPC's MAP solutions and a focused discussion on the specific challenge cherries growers face: how to differentiate and maintain the quality of early season cherries as they move through the domestic market.

Interesting update from Freshplaza : Spanish nectarines and plums are now arriving in South Africa by sea! This fills the market gap just before the local season kicks off in September.

Star South Fruits is sourcing this fruit from Tany Nature in Extremadura. Since imported fruit is a premium product, shipping it by sea is the only way to make it cost effective.

But a long, multi-week sea voyage is tough on delicate stone fruit and puts a lot of stress on quality—far more than a quick air shipment.

Can packaging sustainability and food protection go hand in hand? Absolutely. 🌱

We're proud to be a member of the Advanced Packaging Association (APA), working together to bring evidence-based, science-driven dialogue to the future of flexible packaging.

In APA's latest interview, our CTO Dr. Gary Ward breaks down how Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) and polyamide-based films help extend shelf life, reduce food waste, and enable longer-distance shipments of fresh produce. In many cases, the environmental benefits of preventing food waste outweigh the impact of the packaging material itself.

Food waste makes up about 8% of global greenhouse gas emissions. Functional packaging is an important part of the solution, and as we redesign packaging for a more sustainable future, we must ensure that its role in preventing food waste remains at the forefront of the conversation.
