We started this journey on 2nd November 2024.
What began as a laugh because we didn't think we could do it, didn't think it was within reach, and didn't think we'd receive the incredible support that followed, has now become a reality.
John, David, Eileen and Julie worked hard to drive our fundraising efforts, with Vinny joining the team for the final home stretch of fundraising and our fantastic OIC Gerard Fogarty who worked hard to get it over the line. However this was a true team effort from start to finish by all the Unit, and the biggest member of that team was you, our community.
It took 571 days from start to finish. 571 days of wondering if and when we would see a new vehicle. 571 days of hoping our old ambulance would start and stay going and 571 days of hoping we could keep the Unit alive, because we know we cannot operate fully without an ambulance.
Today, we have a beautiful, top-of-the-range ambulance. It is far beyond anything we thought we could achieve, and it has been paid for entirely through the generosity of the people of Nenagh, Portroe, Kilruane, Capparoe, the Silvermines, those involved in our very first major fundraiser at Youghal Quay, and every fundraiser, donor and donation that followed, whether public, private, online or anonymous.
We want to extend a sincere thank you to the local clubs, schools and organisations who stood shoulder to shoulder with us when we needed support most; thank you to the local charities and voluntary groups in our town who gave money they could scarcely spare themselves because they believed in what we do and thank you to the local businesses, tradespeople and employers who encouraged us, supported us and told us to keep going.
Every act of kindness, no matter how small, helped bring us to this day and because of your generosity, this ambulance will save lives. It will change lives. And it will help keep our little Unit on the road for years to come.
We are truly indebted to each and every one of you.
The unit would also like to thank John Sherlock and Dinny Reddan who made a serious commitment to travelling from Nenagh to Mayo multiple times to inspect the ambulance and to David King for driving her home safely to Nenagh. John and Dinny also made trips from Nenagh to Louth to ensure this ambulance was finished to the highest standards, ready for the road and ready to work.
Finally...
This ambulance belongs to the people who made it possible. It belongs to our community. Thank you for believing in us.
