😡⛽️ What an absolute insult these new 'measures' are for businesses such as ourselves ⛽️😡

🔎🔎 THE MATH DOESN’T ADD UP: Government “Help” vs. Reality 🚌⛽️

The Government is patting itself on the back today for a 22c fuel cut. But let’s look at the "Bus Tax" they’re actually leaving us with.

​📍 THE PRICE TICKER:

• ​Last Month: €1.72 /L
• ​This Morning: €2.25 /L (Up 53c!) 📈
• ​Gov "Discount": - 22c /L 🤏
• ​THE RESULT: We are still 31c per litre WORSE OFF than we were in February.

​What does that look like for a local coach?

Filling a 400L tank now costs €124 MORE every single time we go to the pump compared to last month—even with the new measures.

​The Kick in the Teeth:

As a private coach operator, we can't reclaim VAT on fuel. While the big state-backed companies get buffered, local family-run businesses are expected to just "absorb" these hundreds of euros in weekly losses.

​We transport your kids to school, your teams to matches, and your seniors on trips.
We want to keep our prices fair, but the Government's "emergency package" is like handing someone a thimble of water while their house is on fire.

​📢📢 Tell your local TDs: 12c on a rebate is not enough when the gap is 50c.

📢📢 Support a Zero-Rated VAT status for passenger transport.
Support your local bus operators before the wheels stop turning. 🛑

📢😡📢 Stop complaining in the yard and start shouting in the Dáil 📢😡📢

Unfortunately this is the reality all around the country 😫

😡⛽️🤬 ⛽️😡

Another week, and yet another hike. With diesel hitting €2.12 per litre, the viability of our school transport and Local Link services is at a breaking point.
​In big cities like Dublin, a fuel hike is an inconvenience. In Donegal, it’s a threat to our way of life. With no railway and limited public transport, every cent added to a litre of diesel is a direct tax on Northwest families just for living where they do.

​The Reality for Bus & Coach Operators:
Unlike hauliers, bus operators cannot reclaim VAT. We pay the full "at-the-pump" price—of which 60-65% goes straight to the Government in taxes. We are "absorbing" these costs to keep children in school, but this is unsustainable. Many of our school transport and Local Link contracts were tendered when fuel was significantly lower.

​We are calling for immediate Government intervention:

1️⃣ Increase the Diesel Rebate: Raise the 7.5c cap for licensed bus/coach operators to offset the lack of VAT recovery.

2️⃣ Emergency Excise Cut: Lower Excise Duty to bring pump prices back below €1.70.

3️⃣ Halt the Carbon Tax: Suspend the increase scheduled for May 1st, 2026.
​If the wheels don't turn, our county stops. It’s time to protect the Northwest. 🇮🇪
