Today we said goodbye to our past colleague and dear friend, Jim Compton.

One of Jim’s final wishes was to make his last journey on the back of a truck — and it was an honour for us to make that happen for him. Jim travelled many miles for Martin Ryan Haulage over the years, and it was only fitting that he made this final trip surrounded by the people and industry he loved so much.

Jim was not only a valued colleague, but a true friend to so many of us. Even after his retirement from driving a few years back, the friendship and respect we all had for Jim never faded. He will always be remembered for his dedication, his character, and the many memories shared along the road.

A special mention also to his great friend Albert, whose friendship with Jim spanned more than 40 years — a bond built on loyalty, laughter, and countless memories together.

We would like to pass on our deepest sympathies to the Compton family at this very difficult time. A special mention also to Jim’s son, Seamus, who has been a valued colleague and friend to us for many years.

Rest easy, Jim. You’ll never be forgotten. ❤️

its with deep sadness that we tell you of the passing of Jim compton today . Jim would have worked with Martin Ryan & Sons for many years first starting work with our Late Dad and then continuing on with us for many years . Jim was a very familiar sight on the Limerick to waterford road for many years hauling containers from Limerick to Bellview port for Nessan O Connor . Condolences to all the Compton family . Rip Jim and i hope there is a 1644 merc or a Daf waiting in Heaven for you x
