DSMEE has been providing free miniature train rides in Marlay Park since 1981

Come join us at our miniature railway in Marlay Park between 12:00 and 16:30 on Sunday the 23rd of August (weather permitting) for DSMEE's annual Open Day!
There will be free train rides for both adults and children, and there will also be an exhibition in our workshop that will showcase a wide variety of models made by members of the club. Admission is completely free; just come on by!

Please note that due to the ongoing construction works in the ground-track field, there will be no ground-level trains running. We apologize for any disappointment.

As some visitors to the park may have noticed, access to the ground track field in the park has been cordoned off. As the sign at the entrance to the field explains, a new cricket pitch is being installed as the current crease faces disruption every year due to the concerts. Our railway track is being reconfigured to run around the perimeter of the field, and a new pedestrian path is being installed which will run through the field and into the area currently used by DSMEE. The photo below shows how the field will look once the works are complete.

On Wednesday September 10th, Clover Energy Systems paid us a visit to install a brand new array of Solar Pannels on our workshop roof. Our new array consists of 20 panels, split into two arrays. Together they have a combined kWp of 8.8. This feeds into a storage system by Sigen Energy with three batteries. This gives us 22.5 kWh of storage. Our workshop does not use this much power regularly, so most of the electricity produced by our panels is exported to the national grid. This solar array allows us to do our part in protecting the environment, future proofing our workshop with free energy that we can use to power our machines and charge our locomotives.

On the 12th of June, just before DSMEE had to close for the Marlay Park concerts, we had the oppertunity to host not one, but two school groups at the railway. A class from the local Divine Word National School boarded trains hauled by steam and diesel engines and were taken around our raised track.
All the kids were wonderfully well behaved, and although we had a collection of volunteers on hand, the day would not have been such a success without the invaluable help and sherparding skills of the school's teachers and staff!
This trip was provided at absolutly no cost to the school; it's the least we can do to provide for our local community.

Decal stickers of DSMEE's initials have been installed on our wheelchair passenger car and 0-4-0 Bagnall "Smokey's" tender . These are the same kinds of stickers that cars are wrapped in, so they're unlikely to come off, even after decent usage! 🚂🚃🚃

DSMEE Open Day
At the end of each running season, DSMEE hosts an annual Open Day to round out the year. Previous years have been resounding successes, with over one thousand people attending for the past two years in a row.

On this day, all of our our tracks will be open, with the ground-level and raised-level lines offering passenger rides, and we will be carrying both adults and children!

There will also be an exhibition inside our main workshop, showcasing models that members of the society have made. This is great opportunity to see the variety of skills that members possess and to see the range of modelling that the society undertakes.

The open day will be on Sunday, October 13th. The event is weather permitting and may change dates. Please see our website, www.dsmee.ie for further details

Children's Train Rides Finished 🚂

As of Saturday September 28th, our free children's train rides have finished for the year. Don't worry, if you couldn't make it up, we still have one more chance for you to ride. On Sunday October 13th, we will be having our annual open day, weather permitting, with train rides for adults and children.
We will no longer provide train rides on Saturdays until next summer. In the mean time, members will be working on rolling stock and infrastructure construction and maintenance.
