From Tennessee & Texas to the Heart of Scotland… what an incredible adventure we’ve had.

Over the past week, we haven’t just travelled across Scotland, we’ve shared stories, laughter, unforgettable moments, and made new friendships that will last a lifetime.

Together we wandered the ancient streets of Edinburgh, stood on the dramatic cliffs of Tantallon Castle, explored the fascinating National Museum of Flight, uncovered the mysteries of Rosslyn Chapel, marvelled at the engineering brilliance of The Kelpies and the Falkirk Wheel, walked through centuries of royal history at Scone Palace, and enjoyed a warm Highland welcome at the House of Bruar.

We raised a glass at Tomatin Distillery, paid our respects at the haunting Culloden Battlefield, searched the mysterious waters of Loch Ness on a boat cruise, explored the iconic Urquhart Castle, crossed to the breathtaking Isle of Skye, admired the beauty of Inverlochy Castle, stood in awe of the magnificent scenery of Glencoe, discovered the history of Stirling Castle, ventured beneath Edinburgh on the Historic Vaults Tour, and ended our journey with an unforgettable visit to the iconic Edinburgh Castle.

But the true highlight wasn’t just the castles, the lochs, the mountains, or the whiskey.

It was the people.

Watching our guests from Tennessee and Texas fall in love with Scotland’s history, landscapes, humour and hospitality reminds us exactly why we do what we do. Every smile, every “wow” moment, every shared laugh on the road makes these journeys so special.

To our wonderful guests, thank you for trusting Gaelic Gateways to show you our Scotland. It has been an absolute privilege to travel with you, and we hope a little piece of Scotland will always remain in your hearts.

Haste ye back! We can’t wait to do it again

It is with tremendous sadness that we learned of the passing of one of our wonderful guests, Ron Heath, over the weekend.

Ron travelled through Ireland with us this past June, and it was a genuine privilege to spend time with him. He brought warmth, kindness, and a great sense of humour to every day of the journey. Like so many of the special people we have the honour of meeting, Ron left a lasting impression on all of us at Gaelic Gateways.

Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with Ron’s wife MaryJo and daughter Madison, his extended family, friends, and everyone whose lives he touched during this incredibly difficult time.

Thank you, Ron, for allowing us to be a small part of your Irish adventure. We hope the memories of your time here brought you joy, and we will remember you fondly.

We at Gaelic Gateways try to celebrate everything good about Ireland. Today we celebrate Glen Hansard, an Irish star of film and music. Glen was an Oscar award winning composer / singer who tragically passed away in Dublin in the last 48 hours from a road traffic accident.

Glen Hansard was Irelands bard. He could fashion a story and turn in into song like no one else. A beautiful kind soul, Glen will be missed by all of us in Ireland.

May he Rest in Peace

Da Vinci Code

Today we had the privilege of visiting the extraordinary Rosslyn Chapel, one of Scotland’s most remarkable medieval treasures.

Founded in 1446 by Sir William St Clair, this magnificent chapel took around 40 years to build. Although the original vision was for a much larger church, only part of the design was ever completed, yet what remains is nothing short of breathtaking.

Almost every inch of the chapel is covered in intricate stone carvings, including biblical scenes, angels, animals, and over 100 famous “Green Men,” making it one of the finest examples of medieval craftsmanship in Europe. The legendary Apprentice Pillar is perhaps its most celebrated feature, admired for both its extraordinary detail and the centuries old legend surrounding its creation.

Rosslyn Chapel has survived the Reformation, periods of neglect, and extensive conservation work, ensuring this architectural masterpiece can continue to inspire future generations. In recent years it has also gained worldwide recognition through The Da Vinci Code, introducing millions of visitors to its fascinating history, although many of the popular myths surrounding the chapel remain unproven.

It’s worth of note the chapel has witnessed some of Scotland’s most turbulent history. Following the Reformation, it fell into disrepair and, in 1650, after attacking nearby Rosslyn Castle, Oliver Cromwell’s troops used the chapel to stable their horses. Remarkably, despite this indignity, the building itself survived and would later be lovingly restored to its former glory.

A truly unforgettable place where history is carved into every stone.

Today we had the pleasure of showing our wonderful guests from Tennessee around the spectacular National Museum of Flight, and it certainly didn’t disappoint.

From iconic aircraft that changed history to stories of courage, innovation and adventure, every corner of the museum has something to inspire visitors of all ages.

We had the pleasure of bringing a group of visiting students from Pittsburgh to see and experience Tobar Eoin, St John’s Well earlier today.

Hidden among the rugged beauty surrounding Minard Castle lies one of County Kerry’s quiet treasures, St. John the Baptist’s Holy Well.

For generations, this sacred well has been a place of reflection, prayer and pilgrimage, with locals believing its crystal-clear waters possess healing qualities. Dedicated to St. John the Baptist, the well stands as a reminder of Ireland’s deep spiritual heritage, where faith and the natural landscape have been intertwined for centuries.

Pilgrims historically gather at the well on Pattern Day (29th of August) to do a "round" of prayers. A unique local custom involves dropping a nearby blackberry into the well for each round walked. The well is said to contain a mystical golden fish, and the water is traditionally believed to cure eyesight and headaches.

Set against the dramatic backdrop of Minard’s coastline, with the Atlantic stretching endlessly beyond, it is a place where history, legend and tranquillity come together. Whether you visit for its religious significance, its fascinating folklore or simply to enjoy a moment of peace, St. John the Baptist’s Holy Well offers a powerful connection to Ireland’s ancient past.
