‘We began our journey with Malaysia Airlines, and both flights were genuinely excellent. The service was warm, the food was very good, and the twin seat layout made the long haul feel far easier than expected. For a trip of this length, we’ve learned it’s always wise to arrive a couple of days before a cruise — it gives you time to recover from the flights, adjust to the time zone, and removes all the stress around potential delays. It meant we started the holiday rested rather than rushed.
We spent those first days at the Four Seasons Sydney, which was the perfect base. Our room was ready early, beautifully comfortable, and had partial views of the Harbour Bridge — a lovely welcome after the long journey. From Sydney, we joined our Celebrity Cruises, where we had booked an AquaClass stateroom. This turned out to be a great choice for a long itinerary. The cabin was quiet, comfortable, and in a great location, and we enjoyed the spa inspired touches, the upgraded shower, and the option of dining in Blu when we wanted a calmer, more intimate setting.
The cruise itself was one of the most enjoyable and smoothly run holidays we’ve ever taken. The ship had a calm, elegant atmosphere, and the enrichment talks, wildlife spotting, and general onboard experience suited us perfectly. Our itinerary took us through New Caledonia, Fiji, Samoa, American Samoa, and Hawaii, and we booked every tour directly through Celebrity. This was absolutely the right decision. Every excursion was well organised, accurately described, and excellent value for money. We saw a big difference compared with many guests who had booked privately — quite a few had issues with late ship arrivals, mismatched tour descriptions, or operators who didn’t adjust to schedule changes. We never had a single problem, and it reinforced that booking through the cruise line is worth the extra cost for reliability and peace of mind.
Each destination offered something memorable. New Caledonia was relaxed and scenic; Fiji was warm, cultural, and welcoming; Samoa and American Samoa were stunning, with rich history and beautiful landscapes. One of the standout days of the entire trip was in Kona, Hawaii, where we joined a three part tour covering ancient cultural sites, wildlife viewing, coffee country, and a cloud forest sanctuary. It was the perfect blend of nature, education, and culture — exactly the kind of experience we love.
We ended our journey in Victoria, staying at the Pendray Inn, a charming heritage property that felt like a peaceful home away from home. It was the ideal place to unwind after the cruise. Our return flights with WestJet were perfectly fine — friendly service and smooth travel, though the food was only mediocre compared with Malaysia Airlines.
Using a travel agent made a huge difference to the entire experience. From coordinating flights to managing the cruise arrangements and ensuring everything connected seamlessly, it removed all the stress from planning. It felt like the whole trip unfolded effortlessly because the groundwork had been done so well.'
