The deputy chief executive of Ryanair, Michael Cawley, has spoken out against the Cork airport management in response to their increases to raise airline charges. Large increases have come into effect including a 300% increase in the rental of check in desks. Mr Cawley advised that Cork Airport are in danger of pricing itself out of the market. He continued to say, that Airlines are paying the price, for the investment made by the Airport and the Government, and that there are hundreds of other European airports that Cork is in competition with.

Cork airport was built for €180 million and, it is believed by the airline that this is the main reason for the increase in prices. The long term car park was recently resurfaced and other areas created for long term parking. However with independent car park operators and other viable options available this is also under pressure to give a return on investment. This would indicate higher prices for people travelling from Cork who are looking for airport parking.

Until offsite parking was made available by freely competing independent companies at Cork Airport those parking their cars and flying from Cork were frequently faced with the ridiculous situation that their car parking cost more than their flights. The high charges imposed by the Airport were, and continue to be, quite unjustified and act as a significant disincentive to the use of Cork Airport

John & Co,

You have the full support of the wife, father-in-law and myself with regards to the action by the DAA.

This is a classic example of the big company trying to exploits its size & position to the detriment of the honest hard working man who is making a living in very tough times. Instead of getting there own house in order and being competitive they want to get rid of you and go back to having the monopoly and only option for parking at Cork Airport to line there own pockets.

And it infuriates me when the Minister for Transport & Tourism wants to wash his hands of the matter so easily.

Good luck,

Paul

Dear Mr Smith,

As Minister Varadkar is the Minister for Transport & Tourism I find it very disconcerting that as an elected representative he cannot use his position as a Government Minister to raise the concerns that the electorate have brought to his attention with regards to the DAA plans in relation to car parking at the nations 2 main airports. If the Minister is not able to respond/react to the concerns of the electorate then what purpose does the Ministers Office serve?

I look forward to receiving a response from the DAA & yourself in due course.

Kind regards,

Paul

I hope this message will not be received filed and remain collecting dust in 10 years time because this is urgent. Cork Airport used to fleece us with high charges and pretty poor service. When I took the late flight from London their shuttle bus was gone off duty AND I would in all kinds of weather have to drag my suit case to the car.

A few years ago this airport carpark opened accross the road and gave us EXCELLENT service. Alas the old story might is right and now the DAA are trying to close this carpark which gave EXCELLENT service. I urge you not to repeat the mistake of bad judgement which the Government is famous for and LEAVE THIS CAR PARK ALONE. It is doing the p***c a great service. It is cutting costs for the already overcharged customers using the Airport. It is giving employment. It is run efficiently. Cars are safe there. People will loose their jobs and become a burden on the already poor tax payer. That should be a good enough reason to keep it open.

I do not want the usual acknowledgement to all letters sent to Government Quarters. I want a letter of assurance telling my you are going to be proactive and keep this car park open.

It has come to my attention that Cork Airport through Dublin Airport Authority have commenced legal action to close down Airport View Parking.
Airport View Parking run a superb operation and offers its customers an extremely competitively priced rate for an efficiently run operation.
They have survived the downturn in the economy through sheer hard work and it would be an absolute shame if they had to close down their business (which will put people more people on the dole queue) because the Airport wants to have a monopoly on the parking in the Airport.
I have helped through my voting to elect the present government which I have to say I am losing faith in everyday. Please restore my faith in you so that I will not totally regret voting you in by doing the right thing and stop the DAA from pursing their legal action.

Dear Minister Coveney, I believe the DAA are trying to shut down Airport View Parking in Cork through legal means. I saw reports of this some weeks ago and then nothing up to yesterday; I had assumed nothing was going to happen up until now. Nothing like a monoply, to throw it's weight around. Some time ago you could park your car at the airport car park for 10 mins for free, great if you wanted to just meet a person off a plane and leave immediately. Then the Monoply got rid of the 10 mins, now you have to pay a full hour. Then the same Monoply increased car park charges!
Enter Airport View parking, a Godsend! I and countless others, judging by the steady increase in the number of cars parked there thanked God for a little competition.
Imagine, you're away for 10 days and you have to part with the guts of €100 to get your car back from the Monopoly. Half that with the Competition!
Minister, if the Monoply manage to close down Airport View Parkin, then you and Fine Gael are responsible and hopefully the people of Metropolitan Cork and beyond will hold you and your party accountable at the next election. Another 9 people out of work so the Monoply don't have to compete. Please Minister remember you are supposed to represent the people of Cork.
Yours
Martin O'Donoghue
