Sloppy reporting again. Firstly, the €200m is the Shared Island Fund fiscal allocation for this budget year, essentially allocating ‘cash’ for projects that have to be paid for. Secondly the €200m is not just for the Narrow Water Bridge, contracted for in 2024 at €102.9m (+ VAT), it’s also for a new teaching building at Ulster University and Phase 3 of the Ulster Canal Restoration.

It’s a classic case of ‘re-announcing’ and the formal release of the next tranche of money required to pay BAM and others.

As to whether the bridge is on schedule and on budget, I know not !

€200 million secured for the Shared Island Fund to support the completion of the Narrow Water Bridge, which will connect the Cooley Peninsula in Co. Louth to the Mourne Mountains in Co. Down.
