Clare County Council is progressing a recreational greenway following (where feasible) the route of the West Clare Railway. Two sections are currently under development: Section 1 - Kilrush to Kilkee and Section 2 - Ennis to Ennistymon.

Ireland’s only full size steam railway is back in action on May Day, Monday 1st May. Our doors open at 1:15pm and trains depart for Inch Abbey at 1:45pm, 2:30pm, 3:15pm and 4:00pm.

As well as the train trip, you can visit our museum to learn about the history of railways, explore our fascinating collection of vintage carriages and locomotives in the carriage gallery, drive a train on the model railway, visit our beautifully restored signal cabin, buy a drink and snack in our buffet train and finally pop in to the gift shop on your way out.
