On this special event, we send our best wishes to Ms. Elly's mother who celebrated her 60th birthday. She has offered five kind of fruits, incense, candles, flowers and donation to sponsor the meditation to wish the mother well and happy. According to the Buddhist teaching, the family is the most important and formative association for the socialization of the human infant. Sons and daughters learn various things under various teachers when they grow up, but the first, most important lessons they learn at home from their parents i.e. how to talk, how to eat, how to clean themselves, how to behave.

Parents are worthy of offerings, because the mothers and fathers do much for their children. They raise them up, nourish them, and introduce them to the world. No matter where the parents may be when the children grow older, they should visit their parents and offer them all their necessary requirements and gifts. That is why the Buddha said the parents are Worthy of Offerings.

Thank you for sponsoring Dhamma Dessana and participating on the event for wishing the Abbot of Kotte, birthday your father and safe travel of the home Abbot. One of meritorious deeds children can do to their parents is to deliver Dhamma Message or to arrange Dhamma Desana (Talk) at the temple. We lighted candles and performed padīpa pūjā (light offering). We wish the Abbot of Kotte Rajamahavihara to be well and happy. May Mr. Eko Lukito Go be blessed with great things in life. May Bhante Devananda have safe journey home and back. May all beings be well and happy.

Bhante Chandima lead the chanting of Anekajatisamsaram verses to bless the unveiling event and all beings. These two verses are expressions of intense and sublime joy the Buddha felt at the very moment of his attainment of Enlightenment; as such, they are replete with a wealth of sublime meaning and deep feeling. These verses were repeated at the Jetavana monastery at the request of the Venerable Ananda.

Anekajatisamsaram sandhavissam anibbisam gahakaram gavesanto dukkha jati punappunam. Gahakaraka ditthosi puna geham na kahasi sabba te phasuka bhagga gahakotam visankhatam visankharagatam cittam tanhanam khayamajjhaga (Dhammapada 153 & 154)

The lotus flower represents one symbol of fortune in Buddhism. It grows in muddy water, and it is this environment that gives meaning: rising and blooming above the murk to achieve enlightenment. The mud represents an importance in the meaning of the lotus flower in Buddhism. All humans are born in a world where there is suffering. This suffering is a vital part of the human experience; it makes us stronger and teaches us to resist the temptation of evil. When we banish evil thoughts from our mind we are able to break free of the muddy water and become one with the Buddha. The mud shows us who we are and teaches us to choose the right path over the easy one.
