Many hands. Many ideas. One shared story.

As JIA Curated came to a close, we look back at Wana Pavilion not just as a space we built, but as a space we built together.

Across the final days, the pavilion continued to evolve — from subtle changes in its interior details to conversations, talks, and encounters that brought the space to life.

What made this project truly special was the collaboration behind it: more than 13 collaborators, each bringing their own craft, material, and perspective, yet coming together to communicate one shared message.

To everyone who stopped by, joined the conversations, noticed the details, shared a thought, or simply spent a moment inside Wana Pavilion — thank you.

We’re incredibly grateful to have been part of this journey.

May this collaboration be a reminder that when different ideas come together, they can create something greater than what any one of us could create alone.

When the lights came on, the people became the story.

Wana Pavilion was designed to bring people together — but it was the people who truly brought it to life.

Conversations stretched into the evening.
Old friends reunited. New connections were made.
Curious eyes wandered through every detail.

And somewhere between the gathering, the exchange, and the little moments in between, the pavilion became what it was meant to be:

Not every construction cost appears on a quotation.
One of the biggest misconceptions about engineered timber is that it's always more expensive than structural steel. But material cost is only one part of the equation.

Once steel requires additional finishes to achieve the same architectural warmth, the overall investment often becomes far more comparable than people expect. Add the advantages of faster installation, lighter structural weight, and a more controlled construction process, and the conversation begins to change.

In Indonesia, the challenge doesn't stop at engineering the structure.

It also means engineering the journey.

Every glulam component is designed not only to perform structurally, but also to be transported efficiently across an archipelago with different site conditions, access limitations, and logistical challenges.

Because good engineering isn't measured by the material alone.

It's measured by how intelligently the entire system comes together.

Finger-jointed timber is not a defect. It is an engineered timber method that joins shorter timber sections into longer, more usable components.

The interlocking profile increases the bonding area, helping timber pieces work together as one longer section.

But like any timber detail, the application matters.

Before approving finger-jointed timber, check where it will be used, whether the joint will be visible or concealed, the exposure level, the finish, and whether the product is structural or decorative.

At Woodlam, finger-jointing is relevant to products such as Timberboard and Glulam, where material efficiency, consistency, bonding quality, and production control are important.

Used correctly, it can support better resource use, more reliable sizing, and reduced material waste.

Used without the right specification, it can create confusion, rework, or the wrong expectations on site.

Save this knowledge before your next timber specification and share it with your architect, contractor, or project team.

Engineered in the factory. Assembled on site.
People often think prefab is about building faster.
It isn't.

It's about making every decision before construction begins.
With a DFMA (Design for Manufacturing and Assembly) approach, every structural element is engineered, manufactured, labeled, and prepared according to its installation sequence before it ever leaves the factory.
So when the components arrive on site, the team isn't fabricating. They're assembling.

Because speed isn't created by working faster. It's created by removing uncertainty.
