“I’LL JUST CHANGE MY VISA LATER…”
Think you can simply enter Indonesia first and change your visa purpose afterwards?
⚠️ It’s not always that simple.
Indonesia does have a formal process for certain changes of immigration status, but eligibility depends on your current immigration status, your intended purpose, and the applicable requirements.
For certain eligible cases, an Izin Tinggal Kunjungan (ITK) may be changed to an Izin Tinggal Terbatas (ITAS) through a formal application.
However, not every stay permit can be converted. For example, an ITK originating from a Visa on Arrival (VoA) or Visa Exemption cannot be changed into another stay permit through this route.
⏰ Timing also matters.
For an eligible ITK → ITAS status change, the application must be submitted no later than 30 days before the ITK expires.
So before you travel, don’t only ask:
❌ “What visa can I get?”
Also ask:
✅ “What will I actually be doing in Indonesia?”
✅ “Which immigration status fits that purpose?”
✅ “Can my current status be changed if my plans change?”
