Our starting point is never that volunteers come only for the transfer of knowledge, but also to share mutual knowledge and, ultimately, help projects on the road to self-sufficiency.

Haiti is a fascinating place. At the turn of the 19th century it became the only country in the world to lead a successful slave rebellion, and subsequently the first Latin American country to declare independence from European colonial powers. Since the turn of the 21st century, however, Haiti has seen its fair share of turmoil; a coup d’état in 2004 and a horrendous earthquake in 2010 have unfortunately left it as the least developed country in the Americas. Within this context, choosing to volunteer abroad in Haiti can help make a real impact through local projects, giving average citizens the tools and infrastructure they need to bounce back.

Haiti is a country which is widely perceived in a negative light. But look a little deeper or talk to anyone who has actually been there and you will soon realise that the reality of what you are likely to experience on the ground promises something very different.

Travel to Help addresses the root causes of poverty by conducting education programs, food security, access to clean water, health, counseling, income generating activities... Many of our partners projects are open to all. No special qualifications are required but a real motivation for the project is essential because it should not be confused alternative tourism and volunteerism. Travel To Help's partners runs high quality, customized volunteer travel programs for schools, clubs and other groups of people who want to travel with the spirit of community service, cultural immersion and adventure.
