During my first month in sales, I cried more than a few times.

When my boss wanted me to transition from operations to sales, I resisted with everything I had. I said, "I don’t know how to do sales." He replied, "You have potential." I said, "I can't do it." He said, "Just give it a try first."
As a result, during my first month, I didn't close a single deal.

Every day, watching others sign contracts and host dinner celebrations after work, I sat at my desk feeling as if a huge weight was pressing down on my heart. When I got home at night, talking to my husband, I started crying: "Am I just not built for this?"

After crying it out, I still went to the office the next day as usual, making calls and sending emails. I didn't dare slack off because I knew my boss trusted me, and I couldn't let that trust down.

Towards the end of the second month, I finally closed a deal. It was a very small client with a small shipment and slim profit margins. But I followed up with utmost dedication for an entire month—quoting prices, confirming details, booking cargo space, and handling customs clearance, keeping a tight eye on every single step.

The client later told me, "Ms. Yang, you are the most responsible person I've worked with."
From then on, the orders gradually started coming in. It was only then that I realized a truth: there are no shortcuts in sales—it’s all about powering through. Once you push through the hardest phase, the road ahead becomes smooth.

Looking back at that time now, I’m truly thankful for my own persistence. Why does our international logistics company not have a single sales representative making cold calls?

At our company, not a single salesperson relies on cold calling or knocking on doors.

Where do our clients come from? They come from Alibaba, independent websites, WeChat Video Channels, and WeChat Official Accounts—essentially, all online channels.

Over 20 years ago, when the internet was not yet widespread, we started setting up shop on Alibaba. Back then, many people felt doing business online wasn't reliable. After discussing it extensively with my husband, we decided to give it a shot.

We put our company profile, services, and key strengths online. When potential clients found us via search and felt we were trustworthy, they would send inquiries. We would quote prices, follow up on details, and sign contracts.

Clients acquired this way offer one huge advantage: they know who you are and what you do. They aren't answering after being annoyed by a cold call; they actually have a real demand. Consequently, their intent is much more precise, and the conversion rate is significantly higher.

Some people ask: "Aren't you afraid of competitors comparing prices?" We are, but even if you don't list yourself online, you'll still be compared. Rather than taking a passive beating, it's better to proactively showcase yourself.

Over the years, internet platforms have evolved generation after generation, and we have always adapted along the way. Not every platform generates clients, but if you don't try, you'll never know which one works.

It’s not that cold calling is bad—it’s just that we found a method better suited for us. It’s the same with everything: finding the right approach matters far more than just blindly putting in hard work.
