This is why Naples is different.

🕳️ There’s a whole city underneath it. Napoli Sotterranea takes you about 40 metres down into Greek and Roman tunnels, old aqueducts and WWII air raid shelters. Above you, chaos. Down there, silence.

🍕 Pizza was invented here. A proper Neapolitan is soft, a bit wet in the middle and costs around €5. Pick the place where nobody speaks English.

🥟 The street food is the whole point. Fried pizza, crispy cuoppo cones, sfogliatella still warm from the oven. Walk down Spaccanapoli with greasy hands.

🧺 Laundry hangs over the lanes, scooters squeeze past you and everyone is shouting. It’s loud, gritty and completely alive.

🙏 Maradona is treated like a saint. His face is painted all over the Spanish Quarter, with tiny shrines on the corners.

🌋 Vesuvius looms over everything, and Pompeii is a short train ride away.

☕ Even the coffee has rules. Quick, strong, standing at the bar. And ask about caffè sospeso, where you pay for a coffee for a stranger.

I came for the pizza and stayed for the chaos. 🇮🇹

Meta: the tiny Italian seaside town you’ll blink and miss 👀

Where is it?
On the Sorrento Peninsula, with Vesuvius across the bay 🌋

How far?
📍 About 5 km from Vico Equense
📍 About 5 km from Sorrento

Just 10 minutes by car or a quick hop on the Circumvesuviana 🚆

Slow mornings, sea views and zero crowds.

Who lives there?
Around 7,500 people. Small enough that everyone knows the barista.

Fun fact: Meta has a long seafaring history, and many of its locals were sailors and ship captains ⚓

Things to do:
🏖️ Spend an afternoon at one of the beach clubs
⛪ Visit the Sanctuary of Madonna del Lauro
☕ Coffee and people watching in the piazza
🍝 Long lunch by the water
🌅 Sunset over the bay

Meta isn’t the town everyone talks about on the Sorrento Peninsula, and that’s exactly why we loved it. Sea views, local life, and Vesuvius on the horizon, just minutes from Sorrento 💛

The Italian town that stole our hearts 💛

While we had our hospital routine, Vico Equense had its own. Church bells, clear blue water, Vesuvius in the distance, and that everyday Italian buzz that makes you want to slow down.

Not where we planned to be, but I’m so glad we were 💛 This is our new home away from home, a town that adopted us, no questions asked!!!

Hospital stay in Italy wasn’t on the itinerary 😅 But it ended up being the most unexpected part of our trip.

10 days. Kind staff. Roommates who looked after us. Meals sent over from local restaurants. And a town we’ll never forget 💛

Life doesn’t go to plan. This trip proved it.

He’s out of hospital and on the mend 🥹

This trip didn’t go anywhere near how we planned it. Ambulances, hospital food, 10 days of visiting hours, and one very well-earned day on the Amalfi Coast.

But we got through it, and I’m so grateful. To the staff who looked after him, the people who messaged, and everyone who checked in. It meant more than you know.

It’s a good reminder that life can change fast, so say yes to the trips, take the photos, and always get the travel insurance 😅

Now we rest, and then we keep exploring 🇮🇹✨
