📢 'Vessel orderbook won't overbalance the market', claims Cosco GM

Cosco Shipping Holdings deputy GM Chen Shuai has sought to calm concerns that the overcapacity seen after the 2008 global financial crisis could be repeated, thanks to the huge number of newbuildings on order.

Mr Chen was speaking at a media briefing last week to discuss Cosco Ship Holdings’ financials for the first nine months of 2022.

📢 Zhonggu to target containerised dry bulk to fill fleet of new box ships

Zhonggu Logistics, China’s largest coastal liner operator, wants to attract more containerised dry bulk cargo to boost revenue, as it begins taking delivery of 18 4,600 teu ships ordered last year.
The company believes this is “a more feasible” way of boosting revenue as the container freight market continues to weaken.

The knock-on effect from blanked sailings from Asia has significantly reduced the need for feeder services across North Europe.

The skipped main line calls, with a sharp decline in transhipment volumes, are obliging feeder operators to combine service loops or suspend them and, where they can, return ships to owners when charter periods expire.

📢 Port Houston to implement fees for long-dwelling containers

Starting Dec. 1, the port will apply a $45 per day “sustained import dwell fee” for loaded containers beyond the free period (about five to seven days). This fee comes in addition to demurrage charges.
The fees are intended to help clear space so port workers can better service vessels and reduce cargo delays, officials said.
