βš–οΈ What does a stronger justice system look like? It starts with the people who help deliver it.

This week, prosecutors from Guyana’s Office of The Director of Public Prosecutions, the Special Organised Crime Unit (SOCU), the Office of the Police Legal Advisor and the Guyana Police Force are sharpening their skills through specialised training in Criminal Practice and Procedure Rules and AI in Legal Research and Writing.

The training is tackling practical areas that matter in the courtroom, from rules of evidence, identification evidence and confessions to money laundering prosecutions and plea agreements.

And as technology changes the way we work, prosecutors are also exploring how artificial intelligence can be used ethically and effectively in legal research and writing.

Led by Justice of Appeal Gillian Lucky of Trinidad and Tobago, the sessions are also a reminder that stronger justice systems are built through regional cooperation, shared expertise and continuous learning.

The training is part of the European Union-funded PACE Justice Project, implemented by UNDP to strengthen justice institutions, improve access to justice and advance the rule of law across the Caribbean.

🐘 Imagine volunteering in a place where tigers πŸ… and wild elephants 🐘 roam free.

🌏 Lionel Lorens can!

In 1997, he served as a with the International Labour Organization in remote Laos, which was then off-limits to tourists.

πŸ’‘ That experience helped shape a remarkable journey, eventually leading him to become the United Nations Development Programme - UNDP Resident Representative in Somalia πŸ‡ΈπŸ‡΄.

πŸ™Œ One experience. One opportunity. A journey that continues to inspire.

πŸ“– What if literacy wasn't just about knowing how to read?

πŸ’ What if literacy today is about knowing how to navigate what comes next?

The world is changing fast. 🌍 From artificial intelligence πŸ€– and digital services to new ways of learning, working and accessing information, the ability to understand, question and make informed choices is more important than ever.

Literacy gives people more than words. It gives them agency, the ability to learn, adapt, participate and shape the future they want.

As AI and new technologies reshape our societies, we need to ask:

πŸ”Ž Who has access to knowledge?

🧠 Who can question what they see?

πŸ—£οΈ Who gets to participate in shaping what comes next?

🌱 And how do we ensure progress benefits people, planet and prosperity?

Seeing around the bend starts with being equipped to understand what lies ahead.

This International Literacy Day, we celebrate literacy not only as a foundation for learning, but as a pathway to , and .
