The Guyana Police Force is advising all outbound passengers travelling to the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) to depart for the airport significantly earlier than the standard three-hour check-in period due to severe traffic delays along sections of the East Bank Demerara Public Road.
Persistent heavy rainfall, coupled with ongoing construction works and a deteriorated road surface in the vicinity of bridge spans under construction, has resulted in extremely slow-moving traffic in both directions. Several vehicles have become stuck in the affected areas and have required towing, further compounding congestion.
Motorists should expect substantial delays and are strongly encouraged to make alternative arrangements where possible and allow ample travel time to reach the airport. Passengers with scheduled flights should consider departing well in advance of their normal travel schedule to avoid missing check-in deadlines and flight departures.
Traffic ranks remain deployed throughout the corridor managing traffic flow, assisting motorists, and working to minimize disruptions. Contractors are actively engaged in remedial works; however, traffic conditions remain challenging.
The Guyana Police Force is requesting that this advisory be disseminated through all available media platforms in the interest of public safety and convenience.
Further updates will be provided as conditions change.
