Through roasting in origin, eliminating middlemen, providing educational opportunities, and offering j

ust prices, Chica Bean catalyzes the empowering potential of specialty coffee for women throughout the value chain. Chica Bean brings you the purest form of direct-trade coffee:
--> We purchase our parchment coffee directly from the female smallholder producers who cultivate and process it. We don't just pay them *just* Farm Gate prices, we also increase their access to technology and education through trainings.
--> We do all the inter-Guatemalan transport to get the coffee from the producers in Jalapa to our facilities just outside of Antigua.
--> We store and dry mill, ensuring ideal conditions.
--> And of course, we roast the seeds to perfection, again at the hand of another woman (the only female Roast Master we know of in Guatemala) finishing up with the packaging.
--> We do all the commercialization, followed by the processing for exporting and importing, and following-up the logistics so that our coffee will be delivered to any door in the USA within 5 days of being roasted. Chica Bean defies industry colonialist traditions by roasting in origin and then exporting to consumers, ensuring value is more evenly distributed throughout consuming and producing countries. With this model, Chica Bean pays producers 50% more than the international market, yielding a 2.5x income increase for farmers and a 1.3x income increase for their community.

Honey vs. Best Batch: which one is best for iced coffee?

Iced coffee season is officially here. Or maybe it never left for some of you. 😅

Either way, if you’re staring at our coffee lineup wondering which one belongs over ice, here’s our take:

Reach for Honey if you want something smooth, naturally sweet, and easy to drink on repeat. It’s the coffee we keep coming back to when the weather gets warmer.

Reach for Best Batch when you’re in the mood to slow down a little. The flavors tend to be more complex, more surprising, and a little more likely to make you pause and ask, “wait... what am I tasting?”

Neither one is better. They’re just different kinds of coffee moments.

Which one sounds more like your summer?

Okay, but which one should I actually use for iced coffee? ☀️

The honest answer is both. But they create very different coffee experiences.

Honey is the one we recommend to people who want something smooth, sweet, and refreshing without having to think too hard about it.

Best Batch is usually for the people who enjoy paying attention. The ones who take a sip and immediately start trying to figure out what they’re tasting.

Neither choice is wrong: One is your easy everyday iced coffee. The other is a reminder that coffee can still surprise you.

Which one are you having? 👀

The interesting thing about coffee is that most people don’t actually compare coffee to coffee. They compare a bag to a single number.

$95 feels expensive. But 113 cups at about $0.85 each starts to feel a little different.
Especially when that coffee comes from a system designed to pay producers fairly, roast at origin, and keep more value in Guatemala.

We’re not here to tell you how to spend your money. We just think coffee gets a lot more interesting when you look at the whole picture.

People see a $95 coffee bag and immediately think: “that’s expensive.” 👀

But a 5 lb bag of our Honey Process makes around 113 strong cups of coffee.
That comes out to about: ☕️ $0.85 per cup.

Which honestly changes the conversation a little. Especially when you compare it to spending $4–$6 on a café coffee without really thinking twice about it.

And beyond the math, there’s also everything behind the bag: the producers, the processing, the roasting, the packing, the shipping… all the people who made that cup possible.

Coffee feels different when you start looking at the whole picture.

Turns out... there’s a better answer when someone asks why you drink so much coffee!

Every bag reaches waaay further than your cup.

You already saw who’s behind it. Now think about what your bag actually does for all of them.

One purchase = a lot of real impact.

That’s what’s REALLY inside every Chica Bean bag.

It’s something we think about a lot. 👀
The coffee industry has a gap, but it’s... not really talked about enough?

Women are at the center of SO MUCH of what makes specialty coffee possible.
But the recognition and ownership? Not quite there yet.

We’re not here to say we’ve figured it out. But we are here to be intentional towards it.

What if the “best” coffee isn’t actually the one with the highest score? ☕️

That idea has been sitting with us a lot lately. Because while scores can measure quality, they can’t fully capture the experience of drinking a coffee or the people behind it.

They don’t tell you where it came from. Who spent years producing it. Or why certain coffees stay in your memory long after the cup is gone.

That’s something Abby has really changed her mind about over time… and honestly, we get it.

At the heart of what we do, there’s a story that started with a mom.
And today, we’re thinking about all the women who build, support, and keep things going.
In coffee, in families, and in everyday life.

Happy Mother’s Day 💛
