Bubayeh

Bubayeh A planet ocean gypsy - sailing the seven seas "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did. Explore.

So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Dream. Discover" ................. Mark Twain

I have nowhere I need to be & plenty of time to get wherever I want to go. I live on board my boat & will slowly circumnavigate the globe, sailing the seven seas. Initially sailing Australia and possibly New Zealand during the cyclone season before heading

back up & around the top end of Australia May 2023; then around to the north-western Australian coast, before heading west to Cocos & Keeling Islands. Then over the Indian Ocean and onwards. I have no deadlines, don’t set itineraries, or tight timeframes. In fact, where and when I sail will depend on the fickleness of life & the unpredictability of the weather. I intend to sail largely with the trade winds behind me, where it is warm (endless Summer) & away from the tropics in the cyclone and typhoon seasons.

Really enjoyed a week in Guatemala. Sailed up the Rio Dulce for approximately 40km and anchored in fresh water at a little village called Fronteras. Passed through a beautiful gorge where tropical jungle meets the river.

People live in their houses along the river banks where the only mode of transport is by boat apart from in the village.

Now on to Honduras

Had a great week on the magnificent Mesoamerican reef off the Belize coast. Beautiful reefs and tropical islands with white sand and coconut trees. It’s been a gem of a country. Similar to the Whitsundays but cheaper, less sailing boats and different but wonderful people and culture. As the hurricane season is approaching fast I’ll be leaving tomorrow for Guatemala.

First impression of Belize is wonderful. A great welcome@to Central America. Previously known as British Honduras until its independence in 1981. Friendly people and great islands and reefs. Ideal for sailing Bubayeh. A vibrant nation bordering the Caribbean Sea, the only English-speaking country in Central America. Lying off the coast is the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System (the second longest reef in the world - only behind the Great Barrier Reef

After 5 days on Grand Cayman Island it is time to move on. It’s one of the prettiest islands I’ve been to in the Caribbean. Moored off 7 Mile Beach with its beautiful white sand and crystal clear water. Snorkelling straight off the back of Bubayeh every day.

The Cayman Islands were sighted by Columbus in 1503 and named "Las Tortugas" for its sea turtles, they became a British maritime colony in 1670. Originally a haven for pirates and shipwrecked sailors, it later became a Jamaican dependency in 1863. Following Jamaica's independence in 1962, the Caymans chose to remain a British Crown Colony, nowadays known for its tax-neutral financial laws and its tourism.

This is my last visit to a Caribbean Island. After approximately 5 months I’ll be leaving the Caribbean and slowly sailing south out of the hurricane belt. I’ll be weighing anchor in a few hours and sailing for 4 or so days to get to Belize.

Wonderful Bushwalk yesterday to the top of La Soufrière volcano which is an active volcano on the Caribbean island of Saint Vincent in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. It is the highest peak on Saint Vincent, and has had eight recorded eruptions since 1718. The latest eruptive activity began on 27 December 2020 and ended in 22 April 2021.
