I see this question ALL the time.
And honestly… once you understand how the island works, it starts making a lot more sense 👇

People look at Google Maps and think:
“Wait… only a few kilometers for 40–50 €?” 😅

But the reality in Santorini is very different.

For example with port transfers:

🚢 Ferry arrival times constantly change
🚐 The driver has to reserve that time slot only for you
🧳 Finding passengers at the port can take time because of the crowds
⏳ A “10 minute drive” can easily become a 45+ minute operation

And there’s something many tourists don’t think about:

👉 the car often cannot take another booking immediately before or after your transfer.

So when you book private transportation, you’re not paying just for distance.
You’re paying for:

✔️ availability
✔️ waiting time
✔️ luggage assistance
✔️ traffic
✔️ fuel
✔️ reliability
✔️ convenience

Fuel in Greece is also expensive ⛽

Honestly, when you break it down by time instead of kilometers… it makes much more sense.
