Our technical experts attended the Hellenic Naval Academy in Preveza, with the aim of conducting a technical and practical seminar, aimed at the school cadets.
Our aim and insight were to cover the basic knowledge basis required, but more profoundly aim on the practical and technical aspect of LSA-FFE equipment and Lifeboat-Davit-Hoot arrangements.
We presented to the naval cadets the operation and inspection of basic safety equipment, according to SOLAS and IMO principles. During the presentation, we discussed the following:
Immersion Suits: How to wear them and when they are used.
Breathing Apparatus Devices: Operation and maintenance of breathing devices.
Emergency Escape Breathing Devices (EEBD): Breathing devices for emergency escape and their use.
Fixed Systems: Fixed firefighting systems :(CO2, Water Mist, Foam) for fire suppression.
Air Compressors: Air compressors and their importance in the maintenance of safety equipment.
Life Boats and Davits: The main parts of lifeboats and their davits, as well as their operation and maintenance procedures.
Portable Fire Extinguishers: Types, proper use, and inspection of portable fire extinguishers.
Additionally, we analysed, how the responsible technicians should inspect this equipment, how to receive it from the specialized technicians, and what the correct certificates are, ensuring the safety of everyone on board.
We also explained when hydraulic testing is required for fire extinguishers, breathing apparatus cylinders, EEBDs, and CO2 fixed system cylinders.
