August 28th – September 3rd, 2017
Leonidio, Peloponnesus, Greece
Dear Cavers,
On behalf of the Hellenic Federation of Speleology (FHS) we are pleased to invite you to participate in the 11th Balkan Caving Camp which will be hosted by the 20th Hellenic Speleological Meeting. Leonidio is a town built between Mount Parnonas and Myrtoan Sea
, you can get there by car (approx. 3 hour drive from Athens). Above the town there is an impressive 250m red limestone cliff, ideal for climbing, and in just 4 km away there is Plaka, a small port where you can enjoy the sea. The area is also characterized by a rich speleological background. Important Caves in the Area that you can visit are: Propantes, an epic vertical cave explored up to -360m with an intimidating pit of 285m, Dersios (-170m) and Peleta (-670m) sinkholes, Mana underground river reaching 870m in length and many other horizontal, vertical and littoral (sea) caves. The Event Organizing Committee will give the opportunity to the participants to have access in many technical caves by permanent rigging for the event. Many other happenings, games for cavers and kids and Greek parties will be scheduled!! Also, a free camp space will be organized in a walking distance from the city center and the Conference Hall and Meeting Points of the event. Finally, the participants will have access to “low cost” breakfast and dinner facilities. The event is organized by the Hellenic Federation of Speleology, under the patronage of BSU (Balkan Speleological Union) and it will be a perfect opportunity for cavers to socialize and visit a plethora of caves for all levels as well as enjoy a great variety of mountain and sea activities. More details on the schedule of the activities and presentations as well as on the logistics will follow soon by the Organizing Committee. Looking forward to seeing you all there and we promise unforgettable time! For further information please contact the Organizing Committee through:
