If I had to choose one of my favorite parts of this Venice, Adriatic and Greece itinerary so far, Split, Croatia would be very high on the list.

What I love most about Split is that it feels completely different from Venice. That contrast is part of what makes this cruise so rewarding. You are not seeing variations of the same destination. Each stop brings something entirely new.

Diocletian’s Palace is the perfect example. It is one of those places that surprises people because it is not simply an ancient site preserved behind barriers. It is part of the city itself. People walk through it on their way to work, enjoy meals inside its walls, shop in its passageways, and live their lives surrounded by centuries of history.

For me, that is one of the best parts of cruising the Adriatic. You get these incredible layers of culture, history, architecture, and local life, all connected by the ease of traveling by ship. Every morning feels like opening a new chapter.

This is also why I spend so much time helping clients choose the right itinerary. The destinations themselves are important, but the way they flow together can completely shape the experience.

I am currently sailing aboard the Viking Vesta on a truly beautiful Venice, Adriatic and Greece itinerary, and I wanted to bring you along for a little bit of the journey.

This trip begins with Venice, and it has already reminded me why this part of the world stays with people. The canals, the gondolas, Burano’s colorful streets, the feeling of arriving somewhere that seems almost impossible to capture in photos. It is romantic, historic, peaceful, and full of those small details that make travel feel meaningful.

One of the things I love most about cruising Europe is the balance. You can experience several incredible destinations while still having the comfort of returning to the same ship each evening. For many travelers, that can make Europe feel much more approachable and far less overwhelming.

Burnout does not always mean you need a huge vacation.

Sometimes you need a quiet place, better sleep, good food, fresh air, and a few days where your only job is to exhale.

Long haul flights with kids can feel overwhelming, but they do not have to feel impossible.

A lot of the stress comes from trying to survive the flight instead of planning the flight in smaller, easier pieces.

For families, I like to think about the trip in chapters:

Boarding
Meal time
Entertainment
Movement
Sleep
Landing and recovery

Each chapter needs its own little plan.

That might mean keeping a boarding kit, snack kit, sleep kit, and backup outfit within reach. It might mean choosing a route with kinder timing, simpler layovers, or seats that actually work for your family. It might mean planning snacks, screens, stretch breaks, and sleep routines around your child’s natural rhythm instead of watching the clock the whole time.

The goal is not a perfect flight.

The goal is a smoother one.

A long haul trip can feel much more doable when the route, seat setup, packing strategy, and family rhythm all work together.
