Travel ID now required for online check-in
(21 October 2026)

A Travel ID is gradually becoming a requirement for check-in through the websites and apps of Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Air Dolomiti, Edelweiss, and Discover Airlines. Travel ID provides travelers with one login for the digital services of the Lufthansa Group airlines.

When does the new requirement take effect?

Starting 20 October 2026: Departures from the Schengen Area, except Germany, Austria and Switzerland
Starting 2 November 2026: Departures from European non-Schengen countries, Germany (except Frankfurt and Munich), Austria and Switzerland (except Zurich)
Starting 16 November 2026: Departures from the USA, Canada and Mexico, as well as from Munich and Zurich
Starting 30 November 2026: Departures from all other regions, as well as from Frankfurt
Travelers will be informed about the new requirement by email before departure, in their check-in invitation, and on the check-in page.

Who does not need a Travel ID?

Exceptions include:

Travelers checking in at an airport counter or self-service kiosk
Travelers with tickets issued by other airlines (OAL)
Travelers on flights operated by other airlines (OAL) with a ticket issued by a Lufthansa Group airline
Group bookings
Selected tour operator and charter bookings where online check-in is completed using the booking details provided by the travel agency or tour operator
For bookings with multiple travelers: If one person checks in the entire group, only that person needs a Travel ID.
