Wine is togetherness ❤️🍷

For thousands of years, wine has brought people together.

Stories are exchanged, glasses are raised, and for a moment we remember what it means to simply be together.

Again and again, wine reminds us that life’s greatest pleasures are meant to be shared.

Here’s to connection, to community, and to moments that become memories long after the last sip. 🥂

A moment for the incredible food of Ikaria…😍✨

Meals in Ikaria are not just delicious, but soul-nourishing. Plates of food are passed around a communal table, so everyone gets to try a bite from each dish. Wine is poured freely and generously, making the hours pass quickly. Laughter is easy and stories are shared, creating the kind of environment that makes you want to linger a little longer, for just one more glass 🍷✨

In Ikaria, food is all about connection. Tables in Ikaria were built around community long before the world began talking about wellness and longevity. The food itself tells the story of the island:

Many dishes served in local homes and restaurants today are centuries-old recipes passed down through generations: Recipes shaped by the island’s mountainous terrain, periods of isolation, and deep relationship with the land.

For much of its history, Ikarians relied on seasonal and foraged foods: wild greens, beans, legumes, olive oil, goat’s milk and cheese, fresh fish, local wine, and herbs gathered from the hillsides.

Meat was traditionally eaten only occasionally, often during religious holidays and village panigiria, while daily life centered around a largely plant-based Mediterranean diet. Today, longevity studies continue to show that many long-lived Ikarians still follow these traditional eating patterns.

But the secret to longevity is not only the food itself, but in the way it’s shared and enjoyed among good company.

5 things you notice once you arrive to the island of Ikaria…☀️🇬🇷🍷

1. Island time is real: Ikarians are never worried about the clock and often show up late. There is a common saying on the island that “time does not exist,” and once you’re here, you start to believe it.
2. People linger longer: Ikarians are very social, and a visit to a friend for coffee could easily turn into a prolonged stay for dinner. As the island only has 10,000 year-long residents, neighbors become close friends and essential to building community.
3. Intergenerational gatherings: It is common to see many generations enjoying time together, and even children staying up late at local festivals. Ikarians carry their culture through each generation, so natural bonds form when you and your grandfather can perform the same dance, or share the same favorite song ☺️
4. Dinner is often eaten very late: Ikarians eat dinner later than most Europeans! It is quite common to have dinner at 10 or 11pm, especially in the summertime. Village restaurants and tavernas are open late, and are a hub of energy and connection even late into the night.
5. Music & Dance: Ikaria is known as an extremely artistic island. Many residents know how to play an instrument or sing, and dance is a beautiful and lively part of their culture. It is also known throughout Greece for its epic Panigiria (village festivals), in which the music and dance can last until the wee morning hours.

Appreciation post for the matriarch of the family, and the woman who always makes our tours so special.

Today we honor Maria, who greets everyone she meets with an open heart and the most incredible food.

Whether she is cooking, dancing, or greeting guests from around the world, she does everything with such intention and love.

Happy belated Mother’s Day, Maria, and to all mothers everywhere! We wouldn’t be here without you ❤️

The Afianes estate is home to a traditional “anti-pirate” house-one of many still found across the island of Ikaria.

Between the 14th and 18th centuries, the island faced constant pirate raids. In response, Ikarians retreated high up into the mountains, and essentially disappeared. They ingeniously built low, hidden homes using boulders and rocks tucked into the hills, often invisible from the sea. This became known as the island’s “Age of Obscurity,” when survival meant remaining unseen.

This way of life did more than protect them; it shaped a culture of resilience, self-sufficiency, and deep connection to the land. That spirit still defines Ikaria today.

To sit here now, sharing wine and stories is to feel that history, still quietly present.

At the heart of our tours is a place that captures the spirit of Ikaria’s blue zone—Afianes Wines.

Nikos Afianes and his son, Konstantinos, carry on the millenia-old tradition of winemaking in Ikaria, following biodynamic farming methods to ensure that the essence of the land is captured in every sip.

Their estate also houses a traditional Greek amphi-theater, named after the god of wine & revelry, “Dionysus.” Visitors can find music, dance, theater, and other events happening throughout the summer to accompany their beautiful wines.

A sunset dinner at Afianes is always a highlight of our tours. Guests fall in love with not only the wines, but also the hospitality of the Afianes family.

Happy May! It’s tour month in Ikaria ✨

Which means long tables, full glasses... and a group of strangers who don’t stay strangers for long ❤️

The only thing that makes Ikaria more beautiful is sharing the experience- and that is what our tours are all about.

These moments from last summer say it best: cooking side by side, wandering vineyards together, passing plates, dancing hand in hand, and turning a week into something that feels much bigger.

It starts as a group trip...
and ends with shared memories, new friendships, and stories you’ll keep telling long after you leave.

We can’t wait to welcome our 2026 guests into it.

And if you’re thinking about joining us, our 2027 dates are now open.
