β° If you love to "travel" in the medieval ages, or if you ever dreamed to be part of Game of Thrones, then visiting Vardzia, the mysterious city of caves, is a great idea.
π Vardzia was built in the 12th century, AD. The history of its name is also very interesting - according to legend, the monastery complex got its name from Queen Tamar. The story says that while she was still quite small, she played with her uncle in Vardzia and she got lost. A worried relative began to call the child, to which he heard back βAk var, Dziaβ, which in Georgian means βI am here, uncleβ.
β‘ Located near the river Mtkvari, on the side wall of the mountain, over 600 places are present: churches and chapels, libraries and cells, refectories and storerooms, secret passages, communal areas, water supplies, and irrigation systems.
