Nestled in the Caucasus mountains, the Truso Valley holds a hidden treasure: an array of travertine formations of diverse sizes, colors, and compositions. Walking around them can feel like exploring an alien planet.

🧡Travertine is a type of sedimentary rock that is formed by the precipitation of calcium carbonate from mineral-rich water.

🧡While Travertines are primarily composed of calcite, it may also contain other minerals, such as aragonite, quartz, and clay. The travertines of the Truso Valley also include iron, which oxidizes and contributes to the bright red and orange, otherworldly colors of the formations.
