North East band The Mojitos land dream gig at Liverpool’s legendary Cavern Club
A North East band are celebrating a major milestone after landing a gig at the legendary Liverpool venue where The Beatles made music history.
The Mojitos will play the world-famous Cavern Club on Wednesday, October 7, giving the four-piece the chance to perform on one of the most iconic stages in British rock ’n’ roll.
For the band, it is a dream gig.
The Cavern became synonymous with The Beatles after the Liverpool group played there almost 300 times during their early career, helping establish the tiny club as one of the most famous music venues in the world.
Now The Mojitos are heading through the doors themselves.
The band, made up of Alan Elliott on vocals and guitar, Kevin Adamson on drums, Mark Smith on keyboards and vocals, and Jason Foster on bass and vocals, have built a following playing venues and festivals across the North East.
Their music combines their own original material with the classic British rock ’n’ roll songs that inspired them.
Lead singer Alan Elliott said the band are still finding it hard to believe they will be playing the Cavern.
“It’s one of those venues you grow up knowing about,” he said.
“You see the photographs of The Beatles playing there and you hear all the stories, so actually getting the opportunity to stand on that stage ourselves is pretty amazing.
“We’re going to enjoy every minute of it. We’ll be taking our own songs down to Liverpool, along with some of the classics, and hopefully giving the audience a great night.”
The Cavern appearance comes as The Mojitos prepare for the release of their forthcoming album Extraordinary Things, which is currently in the final stages of mixing.
The band are signed to Amity Records and have already released a number of original singles, available across major streaming platforms.
But for the four musicians, October 7 is about more than promoting a new record.
It is about playing one of the most famous stages in rock ’n’ roll.
Alan added: “We’re just four lads from the North East who love playing music. To be able to take what we do to the Cavern is something we’ll never forget.”
