Weekend Rewind! ⏪✈️

What an amazing few days we’ve had at the Green celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Chipmunk. The atmosphere all weekend has been fantastic, with constant arrivals, packed viewing areas, and a real buzz around the airfield!

We’ve just had a an amazing surprise flypast from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Dakota, who got a great aerial view of our new C-41A resident as it flew overhead!

The rumours are true! We’re incredibly excited to announce another new resident at the Green!

After years of work, this beautiful aircraft took to the skies for the first time since 2019, successfully making it from Coventry to Halfpenny Green!

Beneath the beautiful skin of this Douglas C-41A lies a truly special story. This aircraft is the only example of its type ever built. Commissioned by the U.S. Army in 1938 the aircraft was requisitioned by one of the most important figures of WW2, Major General Henry “Hap” Arnold, to serve as a VIP and executive transport for top military brass and the Secretary of War.

Famously known as ‘The Father of the Air Force’ General “Hap” Arnold, who was taught to fly by the Wright Brothers, would become the Commanding General of the US Army Air Force, playing a vital role in securing the allies victory over Germany and Japan in World War II.

He remains the only person to hold five-star rank in two different U.S. military branches (the Army and the Air Force)

What an incredible day celebrating 80 years of the Chipmunk with over 60 aircraft in attendance! ✈️ 🎉

From the fantastic turnout to the amazing aircraft, today has been something truly special.

It’s been brilliant to see so many people come together to honour such an iconic aircraft and the community that surrounds it.

A huge thank you to everyone who flew in, visited, supported, and helped make the event such a success, the atmosphere all day has been unforgettable.
