Many of you have often asked whether we ever intend on making our railway dual gauge, currently we only run 7 1/4", and there are many people with 5", until now my answer has always remained the same, "no"...

It has now been decided that we will indeed add a third rail, however this will not be for 5" gauge, it will actually be for a conductor rail, its no secret that coal and diesel are now extremely expensive and difficult to run, and battery locos are very limited to their capacity, so installing a 3rd DC rail and using electric locomotives certainly seem the way forward. We would have considered overhead AC wires, however this would be very difficult in miniature owing to the height required.

February working party

The past few days saw our first working weekend of 2026, sadly all didnt go as planned owing to a problem with the supply of 100 tonnes of hardcore we were expecting.

However the weekend wasn't a complete loss, with 3 attendess we still managed to get a few good jobs done, we finished the level crossing at Holmpton station, another job was to move a pile of ballast from our neighbours land. We were able to replace a wooden board that had been damaged by vehicles that had missed the level crossing. And finally the site was given a general tidy up with suring up of some pathways using contaminated stone.

A busy week still lays ahead for me, as the hardcore is still due and will need moving, more updates to come.

Hello all,

Apologies for the lack of updates, behind the scenes there has been plenty going on!!

Our new building is our current top priority, the main steel structure has been ordered and is currently being fabricated in Wales. The foundations are all dug out now, with the hardcore arriving next week, the next stage after this is the Concreting, then finally the steel erecting.

If you have driven past recently, you'll notice we have chopped down the trees at the front of the property, this was a key job as the trees had grown out of control, and it allows access for materials needed to build the shed. Once all works are complete we plan to plant a nice laurel bush and build a platform.

We have taken delivery of a new driving wagon for our new locomotive "Moston", a few bits to do to this and it will be a fantastic addition.

"Afon Glaslyn" is currently at sheffield, having some winter maintenance and TLC, she will be ready for the running season.

We are also busy designing and building bogies to go under our newly acquired roofed carriages. Thanks to Abbeydale Miniature Railway for the coach bodies, and special thanks to Ben Harris and Ian Hutchinson for their hard work designing and constructing the bogies.

More to come soon, so keep your eyes peeled!!!
