Dear resident / business Wallgate – Overnight surfacing works As part of the roadworks on Wallgate, which are to improve walking and cycling connections between the town centre and the Wigan Pier Quarter, there will be some overnight road closures to complete the carriageway surfacing works. The road closures and diversions are outlined below. Detailed plans of the diversions can be found on the council’s website at the following link www.wigan.gov.uk/travelconstruction. If you do not have internet access, please contact the number above and we can arrange for printed plans to be provided. Monday 11th April Wallgate (eastbound – towards Wigan Town Centre) closed between Haig St and Clayton St - Diversion via Pottery Rd, Southgate, Warrington Rd, Westwood Way and Chapel Lane. Refer to Plans A and B at the link above. Wallgate (eastbound– towards Wigan Town Centre) closed between Haig St and Clayton St - Access to Miry Lane and Pagefield Industrial Estates via Wilcock St. Exit from the industrial estates signed via Clayton St as Haig St exit closed. Access to Haig St will be maintained. Refer to Plan C at the link above. Wallgate (eastbound – towards Wigan Town Centre) closed between Clayton St and Great George St - Access to Miry Lane and Pagefield Industrial Estates (including Clayton St and Great George St) via Wilcock St. No Access to Clayton St or Great George St from Wallgate. Exit from the industrial estates signed via Haig St, Wallgate and Southgate. Refer to Plan D at the link above. Tuesday 12th April 2022 Wallgate (westbound - away from Wigan Town Centre) closed between Queen St and Heritage Way - Diversion from Wallgate via Queen St, Chapel Lane, Poolstock, Pool St, Swan Meadow Rd and Southgate. Refer to Plan E at the link above.
Caroline St (north-westbound) closed between Chapel St and Wallgate – Diversion via Chapel St, Queen St, Chapel Lane, Poolstock, Pool St, Swan Meadow Rd and Southgate. Refer to Plan E at the link above. Wednesday 13th April 2022 As per Plans A, B and C at the link above. Thursday 14th April 2022 As per Plans A, B and D at the link above. Tuesday 19th – Thursday 21st April 2022 As per Plan E at the link above. The works are being carried out by the contractor Bethell Group Plc on behalf of the council. Their contact details are at the bottom of this letter should you need further information. Access to properties and businesses will be maintained where possible, but there may be periods when you cannot directly access your building. Please speak to the contractor if you have any specific access requirements. Diversion routes will be clearly signposted. The overnight working will enable the roadworks to be completed quickly, whilst minimising disruption. All roadworks will be complete and cones and barriers will be removed by Thursday 21st April.
