❤️ Community Transport Week – Behind the Scenes! ❤️

There’s a lot more to Caithness Rural Transport than just the buses out on the road!

Meet Elaine and Katy, who keep things ticking along in the office, helping to make sure our passengers get where they need to be. 🚐

From taking bookings and answering the phones to organising journeys, sorting schedules and dealing with all the little things that keep the service running, there’s plenty happening behind the scenes!

With over 270 members to support, no two days are quite the same, and there’s always something to keep us busy! ☎️📋

We’d like to say a massive thank you to The Nethercliffe Hotel in Wick for helping make Pulteney Distillery’s 200th anniversary celebrations extra special!

The hotel hosted a fantastic wh**ky-tasting evening, featuring 11 Old Pulteney whiskies paired with food, bringing together 28 wh**ky enthusiasts and raising an incredible £2,360 for two local good causes! 🎉

We’re absolutely delighted that Caithness Rural Transport was chosen, alongside Wick RNLI, to benefit from this wonderful event, with £1,180 donated to each organisation.

A special thank you to The Nethercliffe Hotel for hosting the evening and to Pulteney Distillery for supplying eight of the whiskies and nominating us as one of the beneficiaries.

Support like this means so much to us and helps us continue providing vital transport for people across Caithness. 🚐❤️

Thank you all for thinking of us and for supporting the work we do in our community!

❤️ Next up for Community Transport Week – some of our wonderful passengers! ❤️

We currently have over 270 members, so we’ve only managed to catch a few of our lovely passengers while travelling with us. A big thank you to those who kindly agreed to have their photo taken and share a wee quote about what our service means to them. 🥰

For so many people, community transport makes such a difference, helping them get out and about for medical appointments, social outings, trips to the hairdresser, shopping, visiting friends and family – and so much more!

It’s about more than just getting from A to B. It’s about independence, staying connected and being able to enjoy the things that matter. ❤️

🚐❤️ CTA WEEK – A BIG THANK YOU TO OUR WONDERFUL DRIVERS! ❤️🚐

We simply couldn’t run our service without our fantastic team of drivers, who help people across Caithness get where they need to be.

We tried to get some up-to-date photos to share with you all, but our drivers are a wee bit too shy to be in the spotlight! 😂 So, we’ve had a look back through our photos and found a few from previous days out and about.

There are lots of our wonderful drivers missing from these photos, but we appreciate every single one of you and everything you do for Caithness Rural Transport. 💙

We’re on board for CTWeek26! From 12–16 October 2026, we’ll be joining the Community Transport Association and communities across the UK to celebrate the difference Community Transport makes.

This year’s theme is Driving Communities Forward, celebrating the drivers, volunteers, staff and organisations who keep communities moving every day.

We’re proud to be part of a sector that helps people access healthcare, education, work, volunteering, social activities and essential local services.

📊 September figures are up! 📊

It’s been another super busy month for Caithness Rural Transport, and the journey figures definitely speak for themselves! 🚍

We’ve also seen a big increase in our hire numbers, with lots of people getting out and about and making use of our lovely new 16-seater in Thurso. 🚌❤️

With college back too, we’ve seen an increase in journeys for students, alongside all the usual hospital appointments, shopping trips, social outings and everything in between.

A massive thank you, as always, to our amazing drivers. ❤️ Without the time and commitment of our volunteers, so many of these journeys simply wouldn’t happen.

And, as always, we’re looking for more volunteer drivers! If you have some spare time and would like to help people across Caithness get where they need to be, we’d love to hear from you.

🚌❤️ A HUGE THANK YOU! ❤️🚌

We would like to say a massive thank you to the Highland Council Community Regeneration Fund for very kindly funding the replacement of our 16-seater bus in Thurso.

We are absolutely chuffed to bits with our new bus! 🎉🚌 It’s already making a real difference, with our community groups being able to hire it and enjoy it just as much as we do for our day-to-day runs.

It’s fantastic to see the new bus already out and about, helping people get where they need to go and supporting our local community. ❤️

A special mention must also go to Alistair Jack, our boss at CVG, for all his hard work behind the scenes completing all the paperwork, putting the application together and helping to secure this funding for us. We really appreciate all the time and effort he put into making this happen! 👏

Without the support of the Highland Council Community Regeneration Fund, this simply wouldn’t have been possible. We are incredibly grateful for their investment in our service and in the communities we support.

📊 AUGUST FIGURES ARE IN! 📊

We’re on the ball getting these out already! 😂🙌

Our overall journeys were down slightly during August, but that doesn’t mean things have been quiet! With lots of our members away on holiday and some of our regular groups not running, this was always likely to have an impact on our numbers.

Despite that, it was still a super busy month for the team, with hospital appointments in particular on the increase, alongside other essential journeys.

And there’s another figure we’re particularly grateful for… ❤️

👏 Our amazing volunteers covered even more hours than last month — an incredible 140 hours!

That’s 140 hours of people giving up their own time to help others get where they need to be.

Whether that’s getting to a hospital appointment, going for some shopping, attending an appointment or simply being able to get out and about, so many of these journeys wouldn’t happen without our wonderful volunteers.

A massive THANK YOU to every single one of you who gave up your time during August. 🚌❤️ and of course to our other amazing drivers who are always super busy every shift!

We genuinely couldn’t provide the service we do without you!

📱 HAVE YOU GOT AN OLD PHONE LYING IN A DRAWER?

We’re on the scrounge! 😄

We’re looking for an old mobile phone that someone might be happy to donate to us.

It doesn’t need to be anything fancy — as long as it can receive incoming calls, that’s all we need. We can get a SIM card for it.

The phone will be used solely to receive calls in an emergency, so we have a way of being contacted if needed.

If you have an old phone sitting unused in a drawer that you’d be happy to donate, please get in touch with us. 😊

🚐 COULD YOU DRIVE THE DIFFERENCE? ❤️

Caithness Rural Transport is looking for new volunteers to join our fantastic team!

Every day, our wheelchair-accessible vehicles help people across Caithness get to hospital and medical appointments, go shopping, visit friends and family, attend social activities and simply get out and about.

For many of our passengers, our service isn’t just transport - it’s independence, connection and the ability to keep doing the things that matter to them.

And behind so many of those journeys is one very important person…

A VOLUNTEER DRIVER. 🚐❤️

We’re looking for people of all ages who could spare some time to help others in their community.

You don’t need to be retired. You don’t need to volunteer every week. You don’t even need to have loads of spare time.

Maybe you could help one morning a week.
Maybe one afternoon a fortnight.
Maybe occasionally when you’re free.
Maybe you could help cover holidays or when other volunteers are unavailable.

Every journey makes a difference.

⏰ Flexible volunteering around your availability
🤝 Meet people and become part of our amazing team
