The Future of Meerkat (and me!) An update for all you lovely anglers
It’s amazing how quickly word gets around, so I thought I’d let you all know what’s going on before the rumours really start flying.
As some of you may have seen or heard, Meerkat is up for sale. I’ve had quite a few messages asking if I’m packing in charter fishing — so to keep it simple: no, I’m not leaving the charter world completely.
That’s the short answer if you don’t fancy reading on!
If and when Meerkat is sold to a lucky new owner (she’s one of the nicest, best-kept BWSea Cats around), I’ll be moving onto a slightly smaller catamaran, around 10m. I’ll still be offering charter trips, but with a maximum of 8 people. The plan is to focus mainly on inshore trips during the summer months, and then switch the boat back into commercial fishing over the winter months.
The reason behind it all is family. The last 12 seasons have been brilliant, running Meerkat flat out 7 days a week for most of the year — but now it’s time to slow things down a little, enjoy more of the summer, and have some proper weekends with the family.
That said, nothing changes for this season. The diary stays as it is, and all booked trips will go ahead as planned. It’s just next year that will look a little different. I’ll still be around — you’re not getting rid of me that easily just yet 😂
Thank you all for the support over the years, it really does mean a lot. I’m looking forward to many more trips ahead.
P.S. If anyone’s in the market for a well-looked-after 11m charter boat… I might know just the one 😉
