Wow… these fuel filters are full of water!
The second photo shows one filter so badly contaminated with water that it has distorted its shape.

The dark colour of the liquid, in the dish, reveals water sitting under the diesel (as water is heavier than diesel). Unfortunately, this means a contaminated fuel tank and water is most probably getting in through the deck filler.

“Jester’s” topsides were looking in a very sorry state! It was debatable whether the dark blue gelcoat could look like new again. After servicing the engine, it was time to bring the whole boat back to looking as good as the engine was running! Both the owner and I were very happy with the outcome.

Before and after! The saildrive diaphragm’s retaining ring, before being cleaned and repainted. It was removed as I was replacing the diaphragm (which needed to be renewed since it was over 7 years old). The saildrive itself had very bad galvanic corrosion and had to be alloy welded.
