⛵ What an Honour! 🌊
Today we had the North East & Yorkshire Youth Sailing Association (NEYSA) at Welton Waters — what a fantastic day!A huge well done to everyone who took part and helped organise the event. 👏
Brilliant to see grass‑roots sailing thriving here at WWAC and WSC — exactly what the sport’s all about. 💪💙

To our army of followers — your support means everything.Today, not a single person has used the lake on the east bank — a place that, on days like this, would normally see hundreds of young people taking risks.Your care and respect keep Welton Waters safe for everyone. 👏 ❤️

🌊 Important Safety Message from Welton Waters Activities Centre 🌊
Many of you will have seen the piece on BBC Look North yesterday. It highlighted a message we urgently need everyone to hear. The danger around open water is very real, and we do not want to see a repeat of the tragic incidents that have happened across the country.Parents and guardians — please speak to your children.
We are asking you to deter them from entering the water from the East Bank and the South West corner of the lake. These areas are not safe for swimming or access. At the centre itself, we have full safety coverage, trained staff, rescue equipment and controlled activity zones. But entering the water away from the supervised areas puts lives at risk. And a reminder: drinking alcohol and swimming is never a good idea. It reduces awareness, slows reaction times and increases the risk of drowning. Please help us keep everyone safe by sharing this message and talking openly with young people about the risks.
Thank you for your support.

🌊 If you ever find yourself in trouble in the lake — here’s what to do 🌊

If you slip, fall in, or suddenly panic in the water, remember these simple steps that can help you stay afloat:

1️⃣ Tilt your head back so your ears go under — this helps your body float
2️⃣ Relax and control your breathing — panic makes you sink
3️⃣ Gently move your hands and legs to stay afloat
4️⃣ Don’t worry if your legs sink — that’s normal, just keep your head back and stay calm
No
Staying calm keeps you afloat. If you see someone in trouble, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

Stay safe on the water 💙

🌊 Safety Notice – East Bank of Welton Waters

We need to speak directly to the youths who are gathering on the East Bank and using the lake.

We can only advise you of the risks, but please understand this clearly: alcohol and open‑water swimming do not mix. Cold water shock can hit even on the hottest days — your body goes from warm to sudden cold, your breathing locks up, your muscles weaken, and you can’t swim properly. It happens fast, and it catches strong swimmers out.

Swimming out to the markers in the lake is far further than it looks. Distances over water are deceptive, and we’ve already seen people struggling to get back.

We’re also seeing people swimming across to the Sailing Club and using the pontoon to jump or dive from. There are underwater hazards you cannot see, and that area is private property, so you’re trespassing as well as putting yourselves at risk.

The litter being left behind is becoming a serious problem. We’ve taken away 15 full bin bags of rubbish — cans, bottles, wrappers and general waste. You come because it looks nice, but you leave it in a state for everyone else. Other families, walkers and visitors want to enjoy the lake too.

Please also remember: after 4.30pm there is no safety boat cover. If something goes wrong, there is no rescue team on the water. Water tragedies happen — we’ve all seen the heartbreaking stories from other areas — and we do not want that here at Welton Waters.

Parents and guardians, please speak to your children. The risks are real, and we want everyone to stay safe and respect the area.

Please share this post !!!

🌊 Community Safety Notice – Welton Waters

We need to address an ongoing issue on the East Bank of the lake. Groups of local youths have been gathering, and while we understand everyone wants to enjoy the area, alcohol and open‑water swimming do not mix. There have been tragic incidents in other parts of the country, and we absolutely do not want to see anything like that happen here.

We’re also finding large amounts of rubbish left behind — beer cans, bottles, crisp packets and general waste. Other people come here to enjoy the beauty of the lake, and this mess spoils it for everyone.

Please remember: after 4.30pm we have no safety boats on the water. If someone gets into trouble, there is no rescue cover.

Parents and guardians — please speak to your children about the risks. We want everyone to enjoy the lake safely, but the current behaviour is creating a very real danger.

Thank you for helping us keep Welton Waters safe and respected.
