Cholsey & Wallingford Railway Former GWR Branchline in South Oxfordshire running heritage steam and diesel trains. Known locally as "The Bunk", passenger services ceased in 1959.

Enjoy a five mile round trip on The Cholsey and Wallingford Railway - a preserved former Great Western Railway branchline in South Oxforshire. Our line links the national railway network at Cholsey, with the historic market town of Wallingford. Trains run on selected weekends and bank holidays throughout the year and, where available, are steam hauled. Having secured the line in 1981, the 100% vol

unteer run C&WR Preservation Society now aims to enhance the facilities that the railway offers and to improve our Wallingford site. The railway aims to offer steam hauled trains where possible, but also operates an interesting fleet of 08 class diesel locomotives.

Murder Mystery Evening Train — Saturday 19th September

Fancy a night of mystery, murder, a lot of laughs and a meal on board a heritage train? Join us for an evening of 1930s & 1940s themed intrigue, as our characters introduce you to a case that will keep you guessing right through to the dramatic conclusion!

Arrive by 7pm and enjoy a welcome glass of Prosecco while our actors set the scene. You will then be shown to your allocated seat on the train where your meal will be served and you will have the chance to interrogate the suspects as we travel through the beautiful South Oxfordshire countryside. Gather the clues, then make your accusations before discovering the truth in our dramatic reveal back on the platform.

Will your team unmask the killer and emerge victorious?

Your ticket includes:
• Welcome glass of Prosecco or soft drink
• Allocated table on our heritage train
• Two return trips through the countryside
• Choice of Fish & Chips, Sausage & Chips or Cheese & Veg Bake
• Ice cream tub
• A bar on the train, with w**e and b**r available to pre-order or purchase on the night

1930s & 1940s dress is encouraged but optional — so why not dress the part and make a night of it?

It's the busiest day of the year on the branch with 15 'Singing Trains' to get you to and from BunkFest. Because of engineering works, GWR are only running an hourly shuttle between Reading and Didcot for most of the day. Check your train times if coming from further afield, but our trains are timed to connect.

BUNKFEST IS HERE! 🚂 🎶🍺

The trains are prepared and raring to go, the kiosk is loaded with a fantastic selection of b**r, c***r and w**e, and the static Coach Café is ready to serve tea and cake. ☕🍰

We also have a fantastic range of singers and dancers lined up to perform on the trains and at Wallingford Station. 🎤💃

Wallingford BunkFest returns from 4–6 September! 🎶🍻🎉

Now in its 22nd year, BunkFest is a family-friendly, free-access community festival, bringing Wallingford to life with 100+ artists performing across 20+ venues.

The stages are built ✅
The b**r tents stocked ✅🍺
The food stalls and vendors are in place✅
You’ve got your programme ✅
You’ve decided which of the 100+ artists you really want to see ✅🎶
You know which of the 20+ venues you’re going to try and make it to ✅

Now for the usual tricky question… who’s going to drive? 🤔

🚂 Cholsey & Wallingford Railway to the rescue!

Whether you’re coming to Wallingford BunkFest from Cholsey, Reading, Didcot, Oxford or further afield, let the train take the strain.

We’ll be running regular services between Cholsey and Wallingford, with our departures from Cholsey timed to coincide with arrivals from mainline services wherever possible. Please note that connections cannot be guaranteed.

And the journey is all part of the BunkFest experience! 🎶 Many of our trains will have BunkFest artists travelling and performing onboard, with b**r available on selected services 🍺. There will also be more live artists performing at Wallingford Station!

Once you arrive at Wallingford, it’s just a short walk to the main BunkFest arenas in the Kinecroft and Bullcroft parks plus all the other town centre venues.

Simply buy your mainline ticket to Cholsey, then hop on board for Wallingford!

Following the successful completion overnight of repairs to the Wallingford Bypass Level Crossing by Network Rail, we’re delighted to be back in operation after two months of cancelled events!

To celebrate — and to thank all our customers for their patience while the crossing was closed — we’re offering FREE train rides for today only, Bank Holiday Monday, 31 August!

🚂 Trains depart Wallingford 12:00, 12:40 and 13:20
🚂 Trains depart Cholsey at 12:20, 13:00 and 13:40 (no return on last Cholsey Departure)
