Tidy the Railway Weekend.

Photos showing the results of the strimming at "The play area at Abergynolwyn" , "The Memorial Garden at Brynglas" and "The drive at Rhydyronen".

A mobile gang worked with the strimmers and hedge cutter at various locations along the railway in glorious sunshine. Lunch was spent sitting on a wall admiring our handy work.

Others spent the day at Wharf & Pendre working on a myriad of different projects.

Outdoor Week brought more glorious sunshine which we took full advantage of and managed to complete the initial tamp of the re-sleepered section with the Matisa tamper.

This section now requires boxing up with a lot more stone and a period of a period of consolidation once the trains start running daily again. Another gang worked hard on the flower beds at Wharf weeding, pruning and cutting back.

The turnout that gives access to the loco serving road which had been dismantled yesterday was removed to enable the mini digger to dig the old ballast out.

The tree gang centred their operation on the milepost 4 area.

Record Fishplate Oiling Attempt

21st -25th August Inclusive

Come and have a dirty weekend in good company!

Due to damp weather 2012 we are a little behind with the fishplate oiling, so I would like to suggest that we have an attempt at achieving a record length of oiling. We are planning on doing the section between Pendre gates and milepost 2 so it would be excellent if we could extend this to say Brynglas. A small group are hoping to start on Thursday 21st August with the main effort coming on the following 4 days. To help with progress we are hoping to carry out some thinning work each evening, this has proved to be a very effective way of making sure we can complete a really long length before the first train on the following day.

The Railway now possesses 3 impact wrenches each complete with a set of sockets. During the work we will also take the opportunity to eliminate a short section of metric nuts and bolts in the middle of a long run of imperial ones at the bottom of Cynfal Bank. This will obviously help with future work on this section of the line.

However no amount of planning and preparation will actual oil the fishplates for that we need gang members to do the work. All are welcome and on site training will be given. Your assistance even if only for a few hours will be greatly appreciated, remember to bring a friend. Please don’t leave this important task to others – many hands make light work.

Many thanks.

Looking forward to seeing you there.
