🎣 Thought he’d hooked a big fish… but it was a SPIDER CRAB! 😂🦀

Now that’s not quite what you expect at the end of your fishing line!

Our members enjoy all sorts of adventures along the South Devon coast at this time of year. Whether it’s fishing, exploring a quiet cove or simply enjoying a few hours out on the water, you never quite know what you might discover.

🦀 Did you know?

🌊 European spider crabs make seasonal journeys between deeper and shallower waters, sometimes travelling considerable distances.

🌿 They can decorate their shells with algae, helping them camouflage themselves against the seabed.

🦀 They’re scavengers and feed on a variety of marine life, including mussels, seaweed and starfish.

Our coastline is full of fascinating marine life, and sometimes the unexpected encounters make the best stories!

I wonder if our member was a little disappointed when his “big fish” turned out to have eight legs instead of fins! 🤣

Remember to handle marine life carefully and return it to the water promptly.

Every boat is booked today, with our members making the most of some pretty perfect conditions.

And this is exactly why we love boating in October. No crowds, beautiful days and plenty of time to escape onto the water. 💙
