A rather sad end to the 25/26 Premier League season for us as West Ham are relegated to the Championship⚒️

Whilst this wasn't the result we had hoped for on the pitch, we've still had a fantastic season off it, welcoming customers, partners and colleagues to the Forge hospitality throughout the year and enjoying valuable time together outside of the office.

We're incredibly grateful to everyone who joined us across the season. Here's hoping for a strong comeback, and we look forward to welcoming our guests again in August💙

A major new trade agreement could create fresh opportunities for UK businesses trading with the Gulf region✅

The UK and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) have reached an agreement in principle on a Free Trade Agreement that, once in force, is expected to reduce trade barriers and improve access to one of the world's most important import markets.

Key highlights include:
🔹Around 93% of UK exports to the GCC are becoming tariff-free
🔹 An estimated £580 million in duties removed annually
🔹 Two-thirds of UK exports benefit from tariff-free access from day one
🔹 Improved customs cooperation and trade facilitation measures

The biggest opportunities are expected across sectors, including automotive, aerospace, manufacturing, healthcare, food and drink.

Ocean freight market pressures are building📈

We're seeing increasing pressure across global ocean freight markets, with carriers introducing rate increases throughout June and further increases expected later this month.

Several factors are contributing to the shift:
🔹Increasing demand on Asia-Europe and Transpacific trade lanes
🔹 Rising fuel costs and fuel-related surcharges
🔹 Carrier rate increases and peak season surcharges
🔹Ongoing geopolitical disruption affecting global supply chains
🔹 Reports of tighter space availability from China on some services as demand increases and carriers continue to manage capacity

One trend attracting attention is the continued growth in China's vehicle exports. With dedicated Roll-on/Roll-off (Ro/Ro) vessel space remaining under pressure, some manufacturers are increasingly utilising container shipping to support export demand, adding further competition for available space.

What could this mean for shippers?
🔹Higher freight costs on certain trade lanes
🔹Reduced availability on preferred sailings
🔹Less flexibility for last-minute bookings

Shipping lines are placing increasing focus on misdeclared and undeclared dangerous goods⚠️

MSC recently announced new charges relating to hazardous cargo and waste shipments following a rise in incidents involving incorrectly declared cargo across the industry.

The charges include:
🔹$15,000 for mis/undeclared hazardous cargo
🔹$5,000 for mis/undeclared non-hazardous waste
🔹$20,000 for mis/undeclared hazardous waste

According to the notice, the industry has seen incidents involving serious injuries, vessel damage and even total loss scenarios linked to cargo being declared incorrectly.

While most shipments move without issue, it highlights how important accurate cargo information and classification have become within global shipping.
