Seriously, people of Norwich and beyond, WHAT is happening?! 🤯 We're currently bathed in wall-to-wall sunshine here on the Norfolk Broads – I'm talking absolutely PERFECT boating weather. And yet, here sit our two pristine, brand-spanking-new 2024 electric boats, just patiently waiting... By themselves.

Is there some kind of collective aversion to unparalleled leisure? Have we all suddenly developed an allergy to glorious sunshine and the serene, silent glide of a truly modern vessel? Because frankly, seeing these beauties sit idle on a day like today is nothing short of staggering.

Let's clear up any lingering confusion: when we say 'electric boat hire,' we're not talking about those charming (but, let's be honest, ancient) diesel chuggers that someone's converted to electric. The pike fishing season is well underway and I'm excited to be offering my freshly prepared electric boats specifically for anglers.

I've spent the whole of this season lure fishing from them, and deciding a practical layout for the rod holders and anchoring system with baitfishing in mind.

Equipped with four rod holders, seats, mud weights fore and aft, navigation lights and the same smooth and powerful performance characteristics that makes these electric boats so popular in their day-boat form.

I've owned and fished from quite a few different boats over the years - all with combustion engines from small to big (in that order!) and I can honestly say, that for a fishing boat on the Norfolk Broads I'd pick these electric boats over anything else every time.

They are more than capable of the 5mph speed limit, have ample batteries for the duration of your hire, and are extremely quiet at full throttle and totally silent at anything below quarter throttle, allowing an extremely stealthy approach to each location.

Anchoring is easy with the aid of pulleys and cam locks, and the four adjustable rod holders are well positioned, clear of all deck space.

I'm looking forward to spending plenty of time fishing from this boat and enjoying the edge it gives me over other anglers, to really get my moneys worth🎣 - and you can to, because I'm offering four hours hire for £60 and eight hours for just £110.

7a.m is the earliest boat departure, 5 p.m latest return.

This beautiful autumnal weather is perfect for an electric boat trip, the river is quiet and there's barely a cloud in the sky ☀️

Book in advance online or call/message for service immediately, we'll collect you from the garden area of The Rushcutters and take to the water for a quick tutorial before your hire is underway.

Come and see the amazing refurbishment of The Rushcutters - I can highly recommend their full English breakfast, it's excellent.

When I came along and purchased my boatyard on Thorpe Island, the electric boats available for hire in Thorpe St Andrew were, erm, cough, let's just say basic, budget boats.

I don't buy into the town councils goal that only one motorised boat hire company is allowed in Thorpe - especially when there used to be 20 hire businesses on the island as recently as the 1960's. Although, to be fair, the recent emails, threats and wholly fictional accusations I've received from one particular unelected and hired staff from the council probably isn't a true reflection of their policies and behaviour in general, more like one bad apple so to speak!

It'd be fabulous if more people came along and purchased land on the island to improve their plot and reintroduce boat hire back to Thorpe St Andrew from one of the few remaining boatyards on Thorpe Island.

If cramped, dirty, noisy, slow, old boats really are your thing, you're definitely going to hate my boats and will never be able to justify spending more for quality - we won't miss each other!

For everyone else, I urge you to make the most of this great weather and book one of my electric boats, but be warned, once you have experienced a relaxing and serene journey on my new electric boats - everything else will just be a disappointment - fact.

So, smash the like button, show support for the rejuvenation of Thorpe Island, thumb your nose to cheap and cheerful attempts of monopolisation, and instead, hire a new electric boat from Thorpe Island Boats 🙏🤞👌👍🇬🇧☀️👏💯

Mornings like this give me cause for celebrations 🍾

My first cause for celebration is being thankful for this amazing weather. There's barely a cloud in the sky and the water is like glass - perfect conditions to compliment my boats - canoe or electric.

The second cause for celebration IS my boats, both my handmade canoes and the electric boats I hire are totally unique to this country 👌
There's no other canoe hire business anywhere in the UK making and hiring cedar strip canoes and I'm the first person in the UK to have imported these beautiful Eagle electric boats from The Netherlands, where they're extremely popular and a few years in front of us with electric propulsion being mandatory for some commercial operations.

My last, but by no means least cause for celebration is that I'm putting Thorpe Island back on the map for boat hire.
Anyone with a long enough memory, or any interest in history will know that Thorpe Island used to be huge with boat hire and manufacture, with nearly 20 different companies conducting such operations in the 1950'/ 60's.

I used to be slightly regretful that I'd called the business Thorpe Island Boats, because nowadays people judge Thorpe Island from the view from the river green, but that's not a factual representation of Thorpe Island Boats, come to the Rushcutters and look across, that's where it's all happening. With over 100 years of history around boat hire between my plot and the Rushcutters Arms, I'm proud to have the words Thorpe Island in my business name now, and I'm proud to be hiring my electric boats between the two premises.

Since purchasing my plot, which has over 100 years of boat manufacturing and hiring history, from notable and pioneering business, I've made it my primary aim to improve the plot and re-establish boat hire operations- can anyone remember that awful scaffolding quay heading?

So anyone upset, or wanting a conversation about my choice of launch location, come and talk to me, I'll be happy to help.
