As a model engineering society we cover all aspects of model engineering, however our main focus is on live steam miniature railways and all that its operation and maintenance entails. We have been in existence for 86 years and at our current site for 74 years. Our railway is well known locally, and it is referred to as the "Thames Ditton Miniature Railway", this is where we operate our two indepe

ndent railways. The ground level railway is for the larger trains the other is an elevated railway for the smaller scale trains, both are used for passenger hauling. We pride ourselves on our facilities that we have built up over the years, and the service and facilities that we provide for our visitors and members alike. We hope you will be able to visit us during the year and enjoy the atmosphere of the railway and its trains. The railway is open for train rides from Easter Sunday and Monday, then the first Sunday of each month and every Bank Holiday Sunday and Monday up to and including the first Sunday in October. Trains run 2.00pm - 5.30pm

We are open on Sunday from 11 till 4, tickets available online and on the day. We've got traction engines, model railways and a small exhibition showing what we've been up to for the last 90 years.

7th June 2026 - 90th Anniversary Gala!

2026 is a big birthday for us. We are 90 years old!

Join is on the 7th June for a day long celebration for our 90th birthday. Trains running on both our railways, with some historical engines, brand new visitors and our home fleet of locos. We've also got traction engines, model boats, and model railways courtesy of Hampton Court Model Railway Society.

Tickets go on sale nearer the time, and watch this space for news and updates.

Our Family friendly historic miniature railway in Thames Ditton is the perfect destination for families, railway enthusiasts, and anyone looking for a memorable day out. When you visit, you're not just taking a train ride; you're supporting a legacy of engineering and a tradition that has delighted families for decades.

Our Open Days run from Easter through to October. We are only open to the public on the First Sunday of the month, and on Bank Holiday Sunday/Mondays. We are pleased to announce that we have installed a Publicly Accessible , and a Bleed Control kit, with thanks to Turtle Medical. We hope they are never needed, but in our immediate vicinity, there are no current The Daniel Baird Foundation kits, and given the light engineering undertaken on our site, we felt it important for ourselves and our immediate neighbours to have access to this potentially life saving equipment. Whilst there are a few 's locally, few are publicly accessible, so we felt this was an important aspect to support our community, as well as ourselves.

In the event of any emergency, please call 999, and the Ambulance operators will advise the exact location, and code for the cabinet.

Thank you to everyone that braved the rain today to meet Santa.
We are sorry to those in the morning session that suffered due to an issue with the tickets - this was rectified as quickly as we could, but we are all volunteers at the railway.
The engines are now tucked up ready for Winter Maintenance and we look forward to re-opening on Easter Sunday.
