Forklift training matters because incidents can come from human decisions.

When training is inconsistent, out of date, or treated as a one‑off event, risk creeps in. Skills fade. Shortcuts appear. Compliance becomes harder to prove.

Effective forklift training does more than teach controls. It builds judgement. Reinforces safe behaviour. Creates confident operators who know why safety matters, not just what the rules are.

But training alone can’t stand in isolation.

That’s where the RTITB Safety Chain comes in to connect training with behaviour, supervision, training records, and compliance, so every link supports the next. With no weak points waiting to become incidents.

If you want training that truly prevents incidents, it starts with strengthening the whole chain. Contact our friendly team now to talk about the Safety Chain.

UKMHA and Women in Logistics UK are launching a new jointly organised events programme, starting with a focused workshop on keeping pedestrians safe in FLT environments. Taking place on 16th June, hosted at UKMHA’s new Kibworth headquarters.

Taking place just after National Forklift Safety Day, this half‑day workshop will put pedestrian safety firmly in the spotlight, combining expert insight, real‑world examples and interactive discussion.

We’re proud that Laura Nelson, Managing Director at RTITB, will be speaking on the importance of effective training and ACoP L117, and how they play a critical role in preventing incidents where pedestrians and lift trucks interact.

Because pedestrian safety isn’t about signage or layout alone. It relies on a strong safety chain, where compliant training, confident operator behaviour, risk management, and clear procedures all work together.

Book your place to join the conversation and be part of building safer, more inclusive workplaces.

What should a forklift operator training record include? Your company may have specific information you want to track and store. However, you should always make sure your training records meet the guidance in Health and Safety Executive Approved Code of Practice (ACoP) L117.

A compliant forklift operator training record should include evidence of basic training, job‑specific training, and familiarisation training. It should also contain assessment outcomes, the Authorisation to Operate (AtO) decision, relevant dates, Instructor details, and any associated medical or competence‑related information. A digital training record management system helps ensure the correct information is captured and stored.

Every safe workplace starts with confident Instructors. They’re the ones influencing operator behaviours, and, in turn, operational safety.

We understand that confidence means more than knowing the theory of forklift operation or driving an LGV/HGV. True confidence comes from being coached to excel at training delivery, and giving Instructors the skill and assurance to influence safer practice across every site. It’s about having the courage in communication to speak up, challenge unsafe habits, and lead with clarity, even when the conversations are tough.

If you need to shift safety culture, confidence isn’t optional. Confident Instructors build safer teams.Safer teams build safer companies. So let’s talk about how the RTITB Safety Chain can better support Instructors.

The Health and Safety Executive has launched a consultation on proposed changes to RIDDOR, including clearer definitions, updates to occupational diseases, modernised dangerous occurrences, and a simplified reporting process.

This is a valuable opportunity for employers and safety professionals to help shape how incidents and ill health are reported in the future.

We encourage RTITB Partners to review the proposals and share their practical insights and experiences before the consultation closes on 30 June 2026.

Every pedestrian injury is one too many.
Every near miss is a warning.
Every safe decision starts with training.

We’re proud to be sharing more about why this matters as part of the Keeping Pedestrians Safe in FLT environments event, with UKMHA and Women In Logistics.

Laura Nelson, Managing Director of RTITB, will deliver a presentation shining a spotlight on ACoP L117 and why high‑quality, compliant training is essential to protecting people in workplace transport environments. Not just to meet legislative standards, but to save lives and prevent harm before it happens.

If you’re serious about reducing risk, empowering your workforce and making pedestrian safety non‑negotiable, this is an event you won’t want to miss.
