National Register of LGV Instructors - NRI The National Register of LGV Instructors (NRI) is a DVSA endorsed, not-for-profit register that aims to professionalise the HGV / LGV training industry.

Our focus is on setting and improving the standard of Instructors and Assessors by maintaining a register of individuals who, by taking and passing an NRI Instructor or Assessor examination, have shown that they have the necessary skills and knowledge. We believe that excellent Instructors and Assessors with a consistent, high level of knowledge and skill, result in safer and more proficient LGV d

rivers. Our focus is on setting and improving the standard of Instructors and Assessors by maintaining a register of individuals who, by taking and passing an NRI Instructor or Assessor examination, have shown that they have the necessary skills and knowledge to do the job

Three categories of registration are available:

- The Register of LGV Instructors proves that an individual has the necessary skills and knowledge to give instruction to both novice and experienced LGV drivers.
- The Register of LGV Assessors proves that an individual has the necessary skills and knowledge to conduct and report on LGV driver assessments.
- The Register of Driver CPC Instructors proves that an individual has the necessary skills and knowledge to deliver Periodic Training courses in classrooms to LGV and PCV licence holders.

Do you provide Driver CPC part 3a tests for HGV and bus drivers? Remember, you must renew your authorisation every 4 years to continue delivering tests.

Be prepared for your online assessment. What will you need?
✅ Your organisation number
✅ A passport-style photo of your assessor
✅ Updated assessor details (if any information has changed)

Don't wait until the last minute - you can apply for renewal up to 1 month before your approval expires.

Exciting news for bus and coach driving Instructors seeking professional development and recognition. NRI is in the last stages of finalising a new PSV Instructor qualification. Bus and coach Instructors that successfully pass the exam will then be eligible to join a new NRI bus and coach (PSV) Instructor register.

Once we have approval from Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency we'll be rolling this out to NRI exam centres. Watch this space for further updates.

As part of continued work to tackle the driving test backlog, the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) has appointed new Chief Executive, Beverley Warmington.

In her new position from 5 January 2026, Beverley will lead the delivery of test booking reforms to cut waiting times. She is taking over from Loveday Ryder who has led DVSA since January 2021.
