Let's Ride Swindon

We are assisting the Swindon Bike Trials Collective - SBTC and some local MTB enthusiasts to develop a small area of land at the Moredon Sporting Hub as a training area for free use by local riders.

The area will enable local riders to sample what the cycling disciplines of Bike Trials and Mountain Biking have to offer.

We are looking for a volunteer who has a chainsaw ‘ticket’ to assist us on Thursday 22nd October for a couple of hours, as we start the clearing process. Refreshments provided. We are able to hire a chainsaw but we need a suitably trained person to operate it at Moredon Sports Hub. If anyone can assist, please contact Nigel Davies

Today saw the latest in what is still a new initiative for the Swindon Lets Ride Group (Let's Ride Swindon) where a group of four riders set off on a damp morning to discover the joys of cycling off road whilst at the same time explore some of the brilliant countryside around Swindon.
Having climbed up to Barbury Castle, a team decision was made to leave the now damp & slippery chalk of the ridgeway and we headed off along Smeathe’s Ridge, with its wonderful views across the Downs. We decided to cross the section affectionately known as ‘Sheep Sh*t Alley’, only to discover that the farmer had decided to put cows with diarrhoea in the field instead.💩💩 . I am sure it will take a few showers to get rid of the smell 😊
Undeterred the group continued of the journey, fertilizing parts of the route as our bikes managed to shed some of the cling-ons.
Thanks you everyone for a brilliant mornings ride, which of course was followed by a debrief at a local hostelry.

British Cycling Lets Ride MTB group rides are a great way to discover the joys of off road riding around our wonderful local countryside. Led by fully qualified Trail Leaders, you will be guided along some of our fantastic local routes. All riders are asked to bring along sufficient drinks, suitable clothing and a spare tube in case of punctures. Our Ride Leaders will be equipped for most trail side repairs.

Today saw the Swindon Lets Ride group host two rides from the Moredon Sporting Hub out to the Cotswold Water Park.
The first ride, an easy going social group ride led by Emma Coates saw a group visit the Lake 12 cafe, whilst the second group took part in the MTB/Gravel off road ride around the lakes led by Nigel Davies. Both groups finished together for a well deserved debrief at a local hostelry.

Bikeability courses encourage children to enjoy fresh air and exercise while learning to ride at a level appropriate to their age. Based at Moredon Sporting Hub, the facility offers plentiful free parking for parents, together with full café facilities.
