SERVICE 256 - DWR-Y-FELIN ROAD CLOSURE FROM MONDAY 20TH JULY

From Monday 20th July for 3 weeks, Dwr-y-Felin Road in Neath will be closed. This will affect service 256.

We will be using shorter buses so that they can loop around the mini-roundabout at the end of Llygad-yr-Haul, Caewern. The bus will then to go back out onto Pen-y-Wern Road, missing out Neath College.

With the hot weather warning this week, at some point we’ll inevitably get the classic messages:

“Why isn’t the air con working?”
“It’s hotter than the gates of hell on here!”

So, here’s a quick explanation before the complaints start rolling in…

Firstly, all of our coaches (apart from the ones old enough to remember decimalisation) have air conditioning. Every unit is serviced once a year, and the latest service was literally two weeks ago.

However, air conditioning is a bit like magic. Most of the time it works brilliantly. Occasionally, when temperatures go nuclear, physics turns up and ruins everyone’s day.

Here’s where the maths comes in…

A typical coach in our fleet is around 12 metres long, with approximately 120m³ of air inside that needs cooling before you even start feeling the benefit.

Now compare that to your average car. Much smaller space, fewer windows, and usually only three people inside.

Our average coach carries around 50 passengers.

FIFTY

That’s roughly 20 times more people than your car, all generating heat, breathing, chatting, and generally existing at 37°C. Add in the giant windows acting like a mobile greenhouse and our air con units are basically fighting for their lives this week.

So if it feels warmer than you’d like, please don’t rush to ring or email us.

We’re all suffering together.

Spare a thought for our drivers, who spend all day sat behind a windscreen the size of a conservatory, slowly roasting like a Sunday pork belly while smiling politely and pretending everything is fine.

So yes, it’s hot.

Yes, we’re leaking liquids from places we didn’t know could sweat.

But we’ll get through this together.

Probably.

Stay hydrated, stay patient, and if you see one of our drivers this week, maybe offer them a cold drink - I can guarantee they are hotter than you!
