🚨 FAIL TO STOP – REPEAT OFFENDER SENT TO PRISON 🚨

Officers in South Derbyshire recently dealt with a prolific offender who showed a complete disregard for the safety of other road users and our community.

Acting on intelligence, PC Alex Boniface located Ashley Siviter driving a BMW 3 series. Siviter immediately failed to stop in the Church Gresley area of Swadlincote, before driving towards the A444 and then onto the M42 into Leicestershire.
During the incident, Siviter drove on the wrong side of the road in poor weather conditions, before turning his lights off and joining the M42 at speeds of 110mph in the attempt to evade police and abort the pursuit.

Following the incident, Siviter appeared before the courts and received a suspended sentence, community service and a driving disqualification with his vehicle being seized and disposed of.

On 4th August, within just a few months of being disqualified and told by the judge he is on the edge of a prison sentence, PC Alex Boniface and PC Emma Swindell sighted Siviter driving again in the Church Gresley area in a VW Golf GTI.
Once again, Siviter failed to stop and drives dangerously at high speeds down narrow streets, through junctions without slowing and ultimately collided head-on with a member of the public.
Rather than remaining at the scene to assist the injured driver, Siviter immediately abandoned his vehicle and ran from the collision.

PC Boniface and PC Swindell located Siviter hiding at a friend’s address where he was arrested for

Due to significant risk to the public and himself, Siviter 20 years old was remanded into custody pending his next court appearance where he pleaded guilty to all charges and was handed 15 months imprisonment, 3 year and 7 month further disqualification period with an extended test to pass if applying for a licence, court costs and victim surcharge with his actions being described as ‘flagrant disregard for public safety and the courts direction only months before’.

This case demonstrates the persistence of our team in pursuing those who choose to drive dangerously, whilst disqualified, with no licence or insurance or under the influence and put innocent members of the public at risk which sadly we see far too frequently turn into fatal or serious injury and life changing collisions.

| A man has been charged and remanded in prison following a reported fi****ms incident in Derby.

We were called to reports of a man with a gun in Sinfin Lane just before 1pm on Sunday 16 August.

Armed officers attended the scene and, after a search of the area, a man was arrested by armed officers in Arleston Lane.

Mark Maher was charged with possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence yesterday (17 August) and was remanded in police custody.

The 46-year-old, of Sinfin Lane, Derby, appeared at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court today (18 August) where he was further remanded to prison.

He is next due to appear at Derby Crown Court on 15 September 2026.

| Ref 798-280726 | We are asking for the public’s help to find Daniel who is missing from Aston-on-Trent.

Daniel was last seen on 15 July but was in contact with family by phone up until 25 July.

We are growing concerned for the 40-year-old’s welfare.

Daniel has short brown hair, is of medium build, and wears glasses.

His current clothing is unknown, but he often wears high-top Converse trainers, jeans or shorts and a plain tshirt. He also regularly wears a ‘Libertines’ hoodie.

This update outlines the progress made on the community priorities set for your area by the Local Policing Inspector Craig in collaboration with the Safer Neighbourhood Supervisors, Sgt Adams and PCSO Supervisor Wallington-Waite and Partners. Community priorities are reviewed and set on a quarterly basis, guiding the focus of the Safer Neighbourhood Team’s activity, in this update, you’ll find:
• A summary of the previous priorities
• The actions taken and outcomes achieved
• The new priorities for the upcoming quarter

New priorities are determined by analysing local crime trends and incorporating feedback from you, the community, through engagement events, surveys and direct contact. The previous priorities for Melbourne and surrounding area’s (Northeast area) were:
• Continue to tackle Anti-social behaviour (ASB), especially around Melbourne and Lowes Lane, addressing nuisance behaviour, fly‑tipping and illegal vehicle use.
• Road safety.

Action Taken and Outcomes:
For road safety we continue to conduct high‑visibility patrols in known hotspot areas and working with Community Speed Watch where appropriate including the newly formed group in Kings Newton. We have taken proactive enforcement action, conducted speed checks along with CREST enforcement and collaborated with Roads Policing Units in relation to off road bikes. During patrols a biker was seen travelling out of Melbourne at speed, overtaking other road users he was stopped and dealt with for this matter. A Driver was handed a section 59 warning after being found driving in an anti-social manner at Calke and a vehicle seized in Melbourne for having no insurance, 2 separate young persons have been dealt with for traffic offences after being caught on an off-road bike in the area.

Continue to tackle Anti-social behaviour (ASB), especially around Melbourne and Lowes Lane, addressing nuisance behaviour, fly‑tipping and illegal vehicle use. For this priority we conducted high‑visibility patrols in known hotspot areas. Worked closely with the community and local councillors and partners to gather information, feedback and provide updates via Derbyshire alert and social media. With regards to Lowes Lane, we have held joint problem-solving meetings with SDDC environmental health team and safer south Derbyshire partnership around Lowes Lane issues setting actions for each agency to complete. In relation to ASB in Melbourne- working with the ASB officer at safer South Derbyshire Partnership we have sent ASB warning letters to parents of youths involved in ASB- should their behaviour continue we will be looking at the young person being placed on an Acceptable behaviour contract to monitor this behaviour and take appropriate action along with our Youth engagement team officers working with them to address their behaviour. Cannabis was located on 2 separate young persons in Melbourne following stop searches these is being dealt with via Out of court disposal actions, 3 males have also been dealt with for possession of cannabis at Swarkestone and 3 further at Barrow. 4 males were arrested in Melbourne on suspicion of possession with intent to supply class c after reports made of males in a vehicle using nitrous oxide.

New priorities:
Following this review, the SNT has identified the following priorities for the upcoming quarter:
1) Continue to tackle Anti-social behaviour (ASB), especially around Melbourne and Lowes Lane, addressing nuisance behaviour, fly tipping and illegal vehicle use.
2) Road safety.

ASB in Melbourne and Lowes Lane:
We will Conduct regular high visibility patrols in hotspot areas. Continue to work with partners to tackle fly tipping. Work with Community Speed Watch and internal partners such as Roads Policing Units.

For road safety we will:
Conduct high visibility patrols in known hotspot areas. Continue working with Community Speed Watch where appropriate. Work closely with the community to gather information, feedback and provide updates. Take proactive enforcement action and collaborate with Roads Policing Units where necessary.

PC Bennett, PC Harvey and PC Boniface teamed up to tackle issues in hotspot areas where crime is reported. Officers travelled down Lowes Lane towards Swarkestone when a male with a balaclava riding a off-road Sur-ron bike has passed officers and sped up the hill towards the bridge going over the A50. PC Bennett has put his lights and sirens on indicating the male to stop in which he has not and failed to stop for officers. Once passed Lowes Lane clay shooting ground the road turns into a narrow stony track littered with deep potholes.

The male continued at speed and was observed by officers to discard an item which looked to be a large knife throwing it over the hedge into a field. The male continued down the track towards Infinity Park Way, Chellaston where he would be in for a shock as he would be greeted by PC Ryan an officer who works on a specialist team the tackles off-road bikes. PC Ryan has heard the sirens and has managed to run towards crossing and remove the male from the bike after being ridden in to.

The male has then made off on foot heading up Sinfin Moor Lane towards Verona Way in which he was pursued and caught on foot by PC Boniface and PC Harvey and was subsequently arrested for:
- Possession of a bladed article
- Dangerous driving
- Driving with no valid licence
- Driving with no valid insurance
- Fail to stop for police
- Assault of an emergency worker

The field full of barley adjacent to Lowes Lane was searched by PC Bennett and a knife and sheath was recovered, the bike was seized and will be destroyed, and the male has been interviewed and bailed pending a charging decision. We will update you as the case progresses as we understand this is a local priority and a frustration shared by many in our community. We often get asked "what are you doing about those bikes?" The focus regarding off road bikes is there from your local SNT team and despite the many challenges we face in tackling this nationwide problem we remain committed to taking action against those offending.

Finally, a thankyou to members of the public who tried to detain the male whilst officers were chasing him on foot.

PC Boniface, PC Bennett, PC Swindell and PC Harvey teamed up to stop a vehicle of interest that was intercepted on Main Street in Ticknall. The vehicle occupied by two male occupants were searched for weapons and drugs and were both subsequently arrested for possession with intent to supply class A and class B drugs.

PC Bennett and PC Harvey visited Arleston Lane again following concerns from local residents the lane was being used for ASB and drug use/dealing. Again, officers have located a male in his vehicle and following checks made on police systems the male and the vehicle have been stopped and searched. The search resulted in some cannabis being seized and the male being dealt with for possession of a Class B drug.
