Reminder - Free Bus Travel

Kids go free in the North East

Kids Go Free covers the whole North East Combined Authority – County Durham, Gateshead, Newcastle, North Tyneside, Northumberland, South Tyneside, and Sunderland during school holidays.

Applicable dates for the upcoming holidays are:
3 April 2026 to 19 April 2026
23 May 2026 to 31 May 2026

Metro and Shields Ferry allow up to three children aged 11 and under to travel for free (with a paying adult) all year round.

May is Living Streets’ National Walking Month, and this year we're highlighting the benefits of walking for women.

Living Streets are asking women to – and get outside for a walk or wheel each day in May for their own health, wellbeing and enjoyment.

The call for women to ‘walk out’ for National Walking Month is in recognition of women being more likely to make multi-purpose journeys, such as combining school drop-offs, care responsibilities and errands within a single trip. We want women to go for a walk for themselves – and their own enjoyment.

A mass ‘walk out’ for all is happening on Friday 29 May to mark National Walking Month – will you join us?

Kids Go Free this Christmas!
Go North East are offering free travel for up to three children aged 11 and under from 20 December 2025 - 4 January 2026 when travelling with an adult with a valid ticket or concessionary pass holder.

Go North East is marking Remembrance Day by offering free travel on all services for veterans and current members of the armed forces on Sunday 9 November and Tuesday 11 November.

Free travel is available to serving personnel who can produce a current ID card, veterans displaying a veterans badge and anyone travelling in uniform.
